6'0" male, 38 years old.
Yes I can do an online BMI calculator and I know my weight is fine but I am currently 165 and am being told I am getting too thin and look sick. Been on Zepbound for a year and was previously about 285 pounds. If you have similar stats and consider yourself in good shape what is your weight? |
Go to the online body share websites.
I can’t remember the name, but search Google for “what does my weight and height look like” Use the tools to put in your height. Then view people at various weights. There’s a lot of variation, but see what you look at 10 lb more, 10 lb less, and Same. Go from there. |
You should focus on protein and lift heavy weights. Focus on fitness. |
Yes, you need to go off it. If you are naturally 165 at 6ft, it would probably be fine. But to be that height and weight and on weight loss meds is not good. You are losing muscle mass. At 38 and 6ft, with a decent amount of muscle mass, you should be about 180-190 |
It really depends on body composition. 165 at your height sounds low though. If you were not lifting while losing the weight, you likely really are looking skinny now. As already suggested I would focus on putting some meat on the bone now. Keep your calories at maintenance or very small surplus and really hit the gym. |
OP here...yes lift weights 5 days/week focusing on maintaining weight but losing fat and increasing muscle mass. |
I agree with 185-190 at the lowest. 165 for a man is very thin. |
At your age and height, around 200-220lbs if muscular mesomorph or endomorph build (assuming you are endomorph since you previously weighed 285 and guessing it wasn't muscle.) Around 175-200 for ectomorph build, which you probably are not if it took drugs to get you to 165. Yes, any man at 6ft weighing less than 180 is going to look sickly or too thin. One son is 5'6" and 190lbs at 15% bodyfat. Another is 5'10" and only 170lbs and looks like Gumby standing next to him. |
My DH is your height and at your age he was 167 and regularly doing triathlons. If you feel good at this weight, you're fine, especially if your labwork agrees. |
Exactly. Who cares about what you look like at 38 anyways. There are reasons there are health standards. OP, go get a dexa. If your body fat percentage is over 15%, there is your answer if you really want to work hard. Otherwise, if you are healthy don’t worry about it. Most Americans wouldn’t understand what a healthy weight looks like anyways. |
OP here. I feel great now, but I know I need to build more muscle mass. Even doing weights every weekday I am starting to see decreasing results. Diet is around 2000-2300cal a day.
I suppose the comments come from people only knowing me at 285lb vs. now. So forget them 😀 |
When a woman with a 22 BMI posts here, people will call her heavy. But a man with the same BMI is getting called too skinny 😭 |
A man with the same BMI will almost certainly have lower body fat than a female. BMI by itself is meaningless. You need to see the persons body composition. A female at 22 BMI might easily be lean and muscular or have a spare tire around the midsection if she has a small frame and not much muscle. That is why you can’t tell someone what they SHOULD weigh based on their height. |

The opposite. Life begins in your mid 30s when you abandon any concern over what people think - particularly about your appearance. If you are doing any of this right, and you actually do the work required to be fit and healthy, looking good follows. |
