| For any admit? What joke. |
| Sorry your kid didn’t get in. |
| Athletes. Kids who are great at English but terrible at math, etc., and vice versa. Or are ESL. You really can’t think of a single reason? |
It's decline of education quality in public schools. What's more alarming (a lot more) than remedial math is that the students at elite universities (such as Columbia) can't read. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2024/11/the-elite-college-students-who-cant-read-books/679945/ |
| Athletes, Legacies, and students from terrible High Schools. |
| Test optional admits. |
How do you get 750+ on verbal without being able to read |
The SAT does not test reading ability or vocabulary. It’s a pattern matching game. With enough practice, you can pump your score to 750 easily. |

|
Because the EBR portion of the SAT is not really reading comprehension. With practice, You can literally score 750 just by reading the questions then finding the answers among the multiple choice answers.
Look, I have no problem with standardized tests in general. But the American style of testing is easily gamed and has barely any relevance to actual understanding. |
You can get a 750+ without being able to read a whole book cover to cover, which is what the article is talking about. |
| Harvard's "remedial math" is just corequisite support for freshman calculus. |
