Headed to Europe next week. My mother has been concerned about all she’s reading and hearing in regards to getting through TSA coming back to the US. She has recommended we turn off facial recognition for opening our phones, and remove social media apps.
We are white, second and third generation Americans traveling with two teenagers. Thoughts? |
we're as vanilla white as they come and deleting same
I have zero trust in this administration |
What? |
Just returned from Asia through Doha 2 days ago. At least 2 other groups at gate were doing this before boarding plane to U..S. It was surreal. |
Same. Made all social private and deleted some posts, though I’m under no illusions they can’t get it if they want it. No more face recognition. No more protesting without a mask. At some point, even us “normies” may have to do or have done to us things we didn’t think possible. |
White, middle-aged female, ninth generation American. Have long disabled facial access on my phone. Cops pulling you over for speeding can pull the same BS stunt. It takes just as long to swipe through 6 digits as the phone to do a facial swipe. |
2025 sucks |
🙄🙄🙄
White straight people have nothing to worry about. |
my kids, born of the most boring, whitest people in America, are routinely mistaken for belonging to various ethnic groups. thus, I worry. |
OP said nothing to indicate her family’s appearance was a cause to worry. |
What does not enabling facial recognition do? They can direct you to unlock it. You can refuse but they can confiscate your phone then for a period of time. |
Because when they took your phone and you have facial recognition installed. They hold it up to your face and the phone unlocks. |
pp said straight whites need not worry. point being some whites don't look 100% white. thus cause for concern in a grab em first ask questions later/never mentality. |
Sure but then they can direct you to unlock your phone with your passcode. If you refuse, they could seize your phone. |
