Kids at Hearst have been complaining all year about the 4th grade ELA teacher - yelling, screaming at kids from on top of tables. My kid tells me daily how most of the class is spent with the teacher yelling at them. Kids go home in tears and are scared to go to class. Well it turns out the teacher was arrested at a prior job for hitting a kid: https://www.wbaltv.com/article/baltimore-teacher-accused-of-striking-student-charged/9626928
This explains so much. Parents have complained about this teacher to the admin, and have been told to their faces that they are racist for even bringing it up. So sick of the gaslighting. And now the news that the Hearst principal is leaving at the end of the year. Just chaos over there and it breaks our hearts. |
I have a 19 and 14 year old, and their 4th grade teacher was a habitual yeller. She's still teaching at their old elementary school! As far as I know, she never hit a student.
School systems sometimes never get rid of problematic teachers... |
I’m so sorry OP. We had a similar bad experience but with a PK aide. I’m still so upset thinking about the details and the myriad heads in sand that allowed him to be in a classroom. |
That’s awful.
It sounds like it is good that the principal Is leaving. Where is she going? |
Can you share this with WBAL? |
OP, did you bring this to the school admin? What was their response? |
What was the outcome of the charges brought against him? |
This is outrageous. I am a parent there - I had no idea. How the heck they could hire him?!? Especially given how active the PTA is; we raise crazy $ amounts - too much if you ask me. |
I am also a Hearst parent in younger grades and had no idea. I searched my email because the name was familiar and found messages that he was a math interventionist SY 23-24 but resigning? Why did he stay on SY 24-25?? |
Wow. I’d raise issue with Frumin, at large CMs and Mayor in email, cc local news. |
If the school wouldn’t listen to me, I’d tell my child to refuse to enter his classroom. Or walk out if he’s yelling. When admin comes they can tell them that they are afraid and don’t feel safe. Repeat daily. Back up your child and remind them they won’t be in trouble with you.
I’d also consider sending my kid with a recorder on in the backpack. Not sure the legality of it, given DC is a one party consent state. But for my own knowledge I’d want to hear what was going on. |
And why was he an AP but now back to a classroom teacher? |
Geez. Also at Hearst and have had a terrible experience with admin (not) fixing a problem situation in a lower grade, but hadn't heard anything about this. |
Nothing in the Maryland Judiciary Case Search that I can find which is weird. |
Frumin is wholly incompetent and won't do anything. You'll have better luck with the media. |
