Must be fever free before going back to school?

When did this start??? If your kid goes to the nurse, what makes the nurse take a temperature? If your kid has OTC meds for headaches and they go in just saying they want their meds - is the nurse required to take their temperature?

On a side note, what happens if you send your kid to school the next day after having to pick them up for school because of a fever of 100.4?

Is this a troll post? It’s always been the case that you don’t send kids to school with a fever. The guideline is fever free for 24 hours before sending them back. My kids middle school is rampant with illness right now…and now I know why.

Her temp is 100.4 that hardly calls for a real problem.

The fever itself is not an emergency, but it does indicate an active illness. First, your child is possibly contagious and the school needs to limit the spread of disease as much as possible. Secondly, your child has a fever and isn't at their best. It's not the school's job in any way to care for your sick child. That's your job.

What. You should let your kid rest before they get worse. 😵‍💫

I believe the rule is 101, but if your kid is 100.4, they're almost certainly going to pop 101 before the end of the day and then you'll be required to keep them out for the next day.

So looking at this from a total convenience to you perspective and ignoring wellbeing or your kid and everyone else: do you really think it's better to have to pick your kid up mid day and potentially keep them home the next day as well?

You are either a bad troll or worse parent.

Seriously? I was in school in the 80's and being fever free for a day before returning to school was the norm even then! This is not new, OP.

The “rule” is 100.4. That’s a fever. Keep your sick kids home!

Fever means your kid is infectious. You keep them home till fever-free WITHOUT fever-reducing meds for 24 hrs.
