Naturalized citizens & green card holders

So I’ve had the conversation more than once this past week with friends who are naturalized citizens who are now keeping proof of their citizenship status on hand “just in case.” A friend had a family member (citizen) detained by ICE until she could prove her status with help of family. People are also sounding the alarm that Trump is essentially building a private militia full of MAGAs who are willing to blindly follow his orders.
How terrified are you? I know there was thread fairly recently asking what would make you want to flee the US? No matter how much the MAGAs say it’s only about getting rid of undocumented immigrants, I don’t believe them.

I'm also naturalized, but I came here as a baby and have no other citizenship. Where would I go if they deported me?

Carry your passport/green card when out and about. There were raids in Arlington, Chewy Chase and other places.

OP here. I think it’s deeper than just plain racism. That might Magas wet dream, but I think the government’s goal is to use fear and discourage dissent. Another poster mentioned her white European DH being afraid. The man detained in the article is white. I think the threat of deportation is just another tool to silence people. Like going after universities, protesters.

OP here. I think it’s deeper than just plain racism. That might Magas wet dream, but I think the government’s goal is to use fear and discourage dissent. No, they are trying to get more people to have babies - that's Vance's wet dream, and hence one of the reasons for restricting abortion. This guy smoked pot, had a DUI, and is probably a liberal and gay. MAGA don't want people like that populating the US.

The way corporations have been going about getting fraudulent green cards. I don't think a green card should entitle one very much.

Yes Trump forgot the Benneton days. We are a diverse and welcoming country and one day our world will be even more diverse. Do the math. Naturalized citizens are citizens, period.

You can’t be thrown out unless they stripped you of your citizenship, which is an extraordinarily rare and difficult process.

I have lived and traveled in an extensive list of countries, and have had to carry an ID in many of them.

It seems prudent to protect yourself.

Native born -> birth certificate in safe deposit box

Naturalized -> passport in safe deposit box, passport card ($40 extra) in your wallet. Unless truly necessary stay in US.

It sucks but this is what I’d do or advise a family member in second category
