How long past the expiration date would you still eat the following, assuming it smells perfectly fine and there are no signs of mold or bugs or anything whatsoever?:
Pearl couscous Pasta Rice Chia seeds 2024 Rice noodles Instant mashed potato flakes Panko bread crumbs |
| I mean it’s almost certainly safe to eat but I’d likely just replace all of that if the date was 2024. |
| These are all dried items. They are fine to eat at any time. I would say if its within 2 yrs of expiration date you wont notice a difference once cooked and incorporated into a meal |
| All of them. If they smell stale, toss, but if not, they are fine. |
Pearl couscous, pasta and rice last forever. I would eat instant mashed potatoes forever as long as the package wasn't open. Bread crumbs? Not that long. Rice noodles -- forever. The things that last basically forever are dry and can't sustain life that way so can't spoil. I just ate some coconut yogurt that was 2 years past the expiration date and was fine. It was hidden in the back of my fridge and a bit frozen though. |
| How long for egg whites? |
|
Indefinitely if they aren't spoiled and still taste ok.
Everything has ridiculously short expiration dates for legal reasons, and to encourage buying more of the product obviously. |
| Is OP still alive? |
| If it gets to be 10 years past the expiration date, I might laugh a bit and then make sure to try and use it up within the year. |
I’m alive and kicking and looking forward to eating my expired foods as long as possible! |
| Just tossed a tuna pouch expired in 2022 but ate 2'from 2024: |
Awesome! Friend has a hubby who collects old MRE's like WWII era military ones. He has eaten some of them for fun, and still alive, just says they taste awful after 80 years. |

If they're all dried, basically forever as long as there aren't visible signs of bugs or mildew or anything.
If they're cooked, 3/4 days tops. I'm generally very laisse-faire about leftovers - I'll give most of them a week - but I don't mess around with Bacillus cereus. |
| Probably just the chia seeds |
