So those of us who applied to Burke learn our children’s fate tomorrow afternoon.
Do people have a guesstimate of its acceptance rates? Fingers crossed and shaking in our boots. |
|
Really no one knows. Burke is generally perceived to be in the tier of highly a somewhat higher acceptance rate than perhaps some others. That said, while Burke and Field were probably in the 70+% neighborhood 5-10 years ago, they are quite possibly below 50% today.
My guess is just that. Anyone who claims to know otherwise is not telling the truth. Good luck, I hope your kid gets in and you're less than 24 hours away. |
| We are waiting for tomorrow too. Last Friday didn’t go that well, so worried about tomorrow. No idea what the acceptance rate is. Good luck. |
| About 25% this year. Heard from the admission people during a visit. |
| It varies a ton based on what grade, right? |
| This was for grade 9. Also just to clarify nobody mentioned a rate. There was a mention of a rounded number of applications. Rate is just an estimate based on how many they usually accept to g9. |
No guesstimate here but good luck to your DC! |
Well this is a bummer. |
| Burke is the hot school among my kid's friends this year, coming from a private K-8. So many kids have applied from the class that there's bound to be some disappointment today. |
|
Our child applied last year (for 9th) out of a progressive K-8. Qualified kids with no red flags got in, but as a progressive school, Burke has a lot of love for our K-8.
That said, Burke also prides itself on having kids from a variety of schools (public and private) and zip codes. We were not told an “admission rate”, but from our admission experience, we got the sense that they were looking for families who understood the school’s mission and could articulate why that would be a fit for their child. They must know that some view them as a “safety” school. |
| If throughout the process you demonstrated a sincere interest and your child has no red flags, I’d say the odds are really in your favor. We applied years ago and DS got in. He was very enthusiastic. He lit up during the open house, his shadow visit and interview. It was his first choice. Sadly we weren’t able to pull off the tuition even cobbling money together from multiple sources. There just wasn’t a lot of FA. We’ve always regretted we couldn’t make it happen because it’s a fantastic place. Good luck! |
How can so many schools be more selective now? Are way more kids applying out of publics? Is this post covid, or...? |
| That precisely. Without making political comments, more folks are disappointed with various aspects of public schools (size of classes, drug use, policies) and more and more parents are moving toward privates. This has been a trend even before covid that seems to have been accelerated during and following covid. |
i don't know. With the Federal Government uncertainty this year, I think things might look different in terms of at least the rates of students who enroll. I think it's a temporary blip, but, given stock market ups and downs, the possibility of moves as this region becomes less stable / enters a recession, I think that acceptance rates will possibly be the same as in previous years, but eventually acceptances will be easier to come by than in the past. |
Financial aid might be more difficult to come by this year, though, with increased demand. Sigh. |
