As someone who hates Teslas, let's hope so.

Yes.

OP here - I asked chatgpt and got corporate speak version of the couldn’t do that. Then I asked if T could disable stolen car and answer was yep. So the in house capability to turn off any T car exists.

I just asked Grok and it states, yes, the vehicles can technically be disabled or have certain features turned off remote by Tesla corporate, thanks to their over the air (OTA) software capabilities.

I don't see any information that this can be large scale targeted...but certainly a double-edged sword of convenience for recovery and updates, but does raise questions.

To add, think about how many of these daily armed car jackings would cease to be productive (or exist!) if one could just type a code on your iphone (or however this works), bringing your vehicle to a halt, locking the suspects inside your car until aw enforcement arrives. Wow.

Of course. But if you have a vengeful govt that treats everything as pay for play, if you don't vote, contribute etc, you don't get to drive a car. Like China does with their social quotient number.

That's one of the reasons I will never own one (or any car with similar features). Even if it isn't intentional, it could be bricked by accident or a hack.

The scarier scenario is if they could actually drive it remotely.

I worry he will end up with the ability to turn off huge parts of US infrastructure,

He turned off Starlink in the Ukraine at the request of Russia. And now Starlink has a new no-bid contract with the FAA--so when we fly, we'll know that the communications systems are at the mercy of Elon Musk. Sorry Verizon--your contract has been DOGED.

This is honestly a next-level crazy concern.

Can you please use your neurons, posters?

If he does that, Tesla sales will drop like a rock, even more than they're done recently. No one will buy a car that the billionaire owner can just decide to disable at will.

Obviously he's not going to hurt his bottom line more than he has to. He's very impulsive and flits from shiny bauble to shiny bauble: once he's bored with destroying the federal government, he will move on to something else, and feds/Democrats will be the least of his concerns.

Only a fool would buy a tesla now. The man is a nazi and a maniac.
