DCPS calendar updated for this SY, calendars for SY26-29 released. https://dcps.dc.gov/page/dcps-calendars
“Please note: Due to weather-related closures, the last day of school for students is now Wednesday, June 18 and the Professional Development Day is now Friday, June 20 and will be the last day for teachers.” |
This whole situation is so ridiculous. “Hey young adult, you’ve taken your AP exam. You’ve taken your final. The seniors in this class aren’t here because they graduated last weekend. You could be out in the world earning money. Instead you need to sit in this classroom for three more days. Will we be covering any material? No, of course not, exams are over. You just need to sit here. For your education.” |
Huh? Just don’t send them. I’ll be sending my elementary school kids because camp is a billion dollars, not because I think any learning will be happening. It seems weird to be mad at DCPS for following their own calendar (though admittedly not quite). |
It’s a formality. They have to meet a certain number of days.
You don’t have to send your kids. |
I won't be sending my kids (8th, 10th) but unfortunately bc I work in a school, I'll be there. |
Spring break is in March in 2027 but in April in 2028. Tf? |
Easter |
Where have you been, it always follows Easter. |
When was Easter and spring break last year? A few years ago the survey gave the option of spring break connected to Easter or to emancipation day and parents picked emancipation day. Which sometimes also coincided with Easter but didn’t always. |
Now they are claiming that parents wanted the breaks to align with MoCo. |
This is nuts. Did they really say this? Where’s the feedback on that? More likely: teachers who live in PG/MoCo complained about not being aligned |
We already booked a trip so DD will miss the last day. It'll most likely be nothing but candy and movies anyway (Kindergarten), so no loss. |
That's not true. It always coincided with DC Emancipation day which is April 15. |
Why does anyone care about DC extending the school year?
Just say your kid is sick for the extra days. It's all state mandates for the number of school days...I guess you could be angry that they don't have any extra days built in for snow days. |
Also not true. |
