MCPS created the drama. Wootton doesn’t want Crown. Give it to Magruder as a holding school so it can get its badly needed renovation of an even more unsafe building done ASAP. MCPS can always transplant Wootton to Crown later if that’s what enrollment projections really support. What’s the rush? |
Some of Wootton doesn't want Crown. Some of Wootton wants out of the unsafe Wootton building and is happy with Crown. |
You're in a public school system doing a boundary study and Wootton schools are some of the closest to Crown with 2 other nearby high schools overcrowded (Churchill and RM) while Wootton was underenrolled.. Wootton cluster was always going to be one of the most highly affected clusters in a boundary study with a new high school next to the Wootton boundaries whether there were issues with the existing Wootton building or not. Either way whatever "Wootton" was would have changed. It's just being changed in a different way than diverting other schools to Wootton and sending some Wootton neighbhorhoods and schools closer to Crown to a new school. |
No, Wootton families wanted drama and created this. You may not want Crown but it was the best option in response to your advocacy for the unsafe conditions at your school. Take responsibility. Is Wootton unsafe or not? |
What about the Gaithersburg families from FRES, Rosemont, and others who have been planning to go to Crown for 20 years? Do they not matter? Or should they just be part of a hybrid school forever? MCPS has to think about the entire population and equity and this situation allows for a stable and safe school for everyone for the long term. |
Problem is, we don't really know how the split breaks. Doing so would require a survey, and who has time for that? Survey of Wootton parents' appetite for being relocated should've been done when the Boundary Study was happening all of last year. But oh well, MCPS blew that and instead suprised parents and got to find out in a chaotic, real-time manner, the response to their unanticipated proposal. |
The hybrid proposal is a fever dream from Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman. It is not being considered seriously by MCPS. Either Wootton moves there or Crown becomes a holding school. Problem is, if it becomes a holding school, the only high school slated for a rebuild in the current CIP is Damascus. |
Well said but I don't think any rational logic has place here with these keyboard warriors. Let them fume away and burn through some cash. |
You don't want Crown as you would rather spend your time complaining on social media vs. putting that time into your kids. |
They should leave Wootton alone and have the families who want Crown go to crown so their kids are safe. The few Wooton advocates don't care about Gaithersburg families. |
These are not mutually contradictory. The new Wootton @ Crown will relieve over-crowding at those schools. QO will go from 120% to around 95% for example. And Crown is being built with a higher capacity than the current Wootton and can be expanded further to 2700 kids without much difficulty if needed. It’s clearly better for the county to balance enrollment needs geographically than the current Wootton site. |
Many schools need repairs but Gaithersburg needs a school too. Stop being selfish and obnoxious. |
Y’all be talking about caring about Gaithersburg families who will be affected when Gaithersburg HS is already dropping below 100% and is not in the same zip code as crown HS. Who is in the same zip code as Crown? - Fields Road - DuFief - Stone Mill - Travilah …and then QO feeders that are way closer to QO than Crown and shouldn’t move to Crown. But, sure, let’s not send SM, DuFief and Travilah to Crown at the expense of “Gaithersburg kids” who live in a diff zip code right next to Gaithersburg HS. Okay. Improving the experience for kids at GHS also means filling the building in a way that will make their home school less overcrowded. Not busing them across 270 to a new school when GHS is in walking distance. |
Look, you started this drama with your demands. They don't need to fill the building. It's fine to have it at a lower capacity. Per you, Wootton is unsafe. So, stop flip-flopping and be grateful for this opportunity. |
| Is it true that rich families are donating $500.00 each to raise $100,000.00 to fight having their children mix with families who are not rich? And is it true that parents from a current Wootton elementary school were removed from a group chat? Or is this just silly drama that could never be true? |
