Field hockey clubs feedback

A big issue with Nexus is that girls are getting evaluated in very small spaces. If you are good in a box you can make Nexus. A lot of players, particularly faster athletes, play better in the open field and in real games. But they are not as good at dribbling through cones or doing lifts or pop ups or whatever.

Lots of low scoring, close games.
I think the results have to change the narrative on this thread that NL isn't one of the top clubs--just my opinion

I think the gap is certainly closing. One issue I see for NL is that she uses many players across age groups which makes me wonder about depth at each age group.

I agree with the lack of depth. I think NL only has one '25 D1 commit. But, what a great opportunity for the U16s who get to play up and go to NCC for both age groups

Wrong. There are 2 D1s at '25, at least. And several at top D3 scools.

When you say top D3, who we talking about? My understanding of D3, and I'm admittedly not an expert, is that there is a big drop off after the top 5-6 programs. We live in Virginia so my daughter doesn't play on a team in that region; but I think it is great that an "underdog" club could win. Congrats to them.

Are you kidding? This is completely inaccurate. Yes, Midd, Hopkins, and a couple others are the perennial favorites. But there are lots of AMAZING D3 programs and those schools are always in the mix (i.e. Bates, Ursinus, F&M, Tufts, CNU, Lynchburg, Rowan, Salisbury, and others). And there are some great ones on the rise (i.e., Bryn Mawr is doing great things). And NL has some players committed to these D3 schools.

Does NL have any players committed to Hopkins, Middlebury, Tufts, Salisbury, or Williams? Those are the top 5.
My understanding of that club is that they have a few strong D1 players, and a number of middle level D3 players and a strong U16 team.
I think that makes it more impressive that they won.

This, 100%. And it all depends on the day and the coach. The Senior Mid-Atlantic one this was a complete mess. Only small side play. Not good.

It can also be said that there are lots of ball hogs at Nexus and if you end up on a team like this it can be hard to get a chance. Like mids holding the ball too long rather than making a pass to an open forward. Sure maybe sometimes they get by the defender, but enough times they don't. Meanwhile, the forward is just hanging out looking useless. I've heard this complaint from many girls over many years.

Similar complaints from defenders—endless shooting drills, unrealistic 1v1 & no action while midfielders hack away at the ball. Nexus loves midfielders.

Hopkins and Midd are top of the heap every year. The others are generally in the top 20 along with several other regulars that get shuffled up/down. It's not correct to say the schools you list are the top 5 every year. I just went to their IG page and their seniors on the U19 page show that they have D3 players for Bates, Hamilton, and Lynchburg, and those are all 3 very good D3 teams.

Their coach is fantastic, imo. She plays as a team vs. plays to the superstars on the team.

Mine was not a forward or attack position. But, this is very much true at NEXUS.

I’m not sure I agree with your last statement if she chooses to play younger girls up as opposed to playing girls at the correct age group. Seems like it is more about winning if u19 players are displaced by u16 players because they are more skilled. 1-2 players, ok, but half the team?

I am not that familiar with Next Level's U19 team; but I would not classify Hamilton as a very good D3 team.

Ah, but they leveraged the sport to get into a very good school.

They didn’t finish well. But was a ranked, top 25 team this season.

Anyone look at the NCC draw that just came out? DMV teams seem to have fairly favorable pools. Wolves should easily advance in U19. They stay away from the heavy hitters like Pride, Eagles, and Windy City, and they draw Pinnacle who is very beatable and Ambush who finished second in their region at RCCs and got destroyed both times by Bull City.

I’m interested to see how many teams are missing seniors who have already left for college. I know of a few local girls who are supposed to report before NCCs.

Pinnacle's A team, if that's who they send, is VERY good.

Wonder how NL U16 will do at NCC.
