All models are currently predicting serious amounts of snow. The European model shows 17 inches for DC. Others have 6 inches. There is still PLENTY of time for snowfall total modifications, but at this point, a storm with accumulating snow seems highly likely on Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. Please stock up on the usual without going crazy. Here is the more sedate National Weather Service blend of models: ![]() |
Omg please make it stop!!!!! |
Seriously. My schedule (with school-age kids at home) has not been normal since Christmas due to illness and snow. Ugh. |
The snow this past week was tolerable since it melted so fast. Next week will be worse since it’s going to be very cold afterward.
I just keep thinking that in five or six weeks, the cherry blossoms should be in bloom and hopefully I can hold out till then |

Get your salt now. And a shovel. I can't believe there are lazy jerks who are still ill prepared and don't take care of their property. |
OK, this isn't going to happen, but it's still fun to look at. ICON model as of Saturday afternoon: ![]() |
Is this a poorly performing model? |
This is the worst winter i remember here except for a blizzard. |
Yes ![]() |
You mean it's a normal winter, with actual snowstorms? Many people like normal winters and want more of them, instead of whatever crap drizzle climate change sends us. And remember. The colder it gets in winter, the less you need to worry about rodents the rest of the year. Mosquitoes always find ways to survive, sadly. |
Here’s Jay Wintey Mix’s latest update
“ We have one more day of runs before we can take this snowstorm threat to the next phase. But right now the gfs and European are both on board with a major snowstorm with temps in the upper teens /lower twenty’s. Extremely rare. Timing is Wednesday evening night through Thursday night as of now I’ve seen the rug pulled several times in my life with similar scenarios so there is no celebrating on my part for another 24 hours. Good luck to us all!” |
Ha ha, thanks. The European is saying 14.7 in DC versus that one above saying 19.9. |
Normal is relative. This is not normal for DC. If you want snow every year, move a couple hundred miles north. |
And even that's optimistic. It's the curse of the DC snowhole. The models all spit out 10 digit totals a few days out, then we get 4 inches or something. Just enough to close schools and make parents mad. But every time all the weather enthusiasts get their hopes up, because *rarely*... the models are right. |
