FCPS Outreach to Federal Employees

Anonymous
Advertising FCPS job opportunities to federal employees in its latest weekly newsletter - job fair on Wednesday.

Looking for job opportunities or a career path supporting education? Join us on Wednesday, February 19, from 6-7:30 p.m., for a job and career information fair.

FCPS offers a wealth of opportunities for professionals transitioning from federal and state government roles into the public education sector. A dedication to public service could make you a strong candidate for both educational and operational positions. By joining FCPS, you can continue making a meaningful impact while embarking on a new career in public education.

If you hold a bachelor’s degree, you can become provisionally licensed to teach in just a few weeks. Beyond teaching, FCPS offers a variety of operational roles in departments such as finance, human resources, safety and security, food service, transportation, and facilities.

FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will open the information session. Chief Human Resources Officer William Solomon and other FCPS HR leaders will talk about all the exciting opportunities available at the school division. Attendees can visit tables where they can learn more about open positions, as well as salary, benefits, and retirement plans.

Learn more about the job and career fair and employment opportunities with FCPS. A registration link and information on the location are coming soon. https://www.fcps.edu/transition-to-fcps

I thought this was brilliant! FCPS has thousands of open positions, now, and thousands of laid off Feds are looking for jobs, now. The 2 fields have a lot of overlap in their skills sets and compensation packages. However, any jobs with FCPS require a 100% RTO, which will likely turn off a lot of Feds.

Didn’t realize FCPS was this desperate.

Please check job listings with FCPS, ACPS, APS, Falls Church City school districts and their respective counties. Besides teaching positions there are a lot of openings in Facilities, Human Resources, Budget, Grants, Transportation and many more Central Office positions.

School districts and counties are covered under the VRS ( Virginia Retirement System), great leave benefits, healthcare, disability, hybrid schedule etc. They may not be as good as Federal employment but they are a pretty solid second option. In fact I am in the process of interviewing for one of the Central Office positions and I have been waiting for any interest from Federal employees.

Pretty much all Central Offices in school districts and counties across VA are offering at least 2 day WFH.

Was that meant to be a dig at “lazy Feds”? A lot of the reason people like WFH is that commutes to federal offices can be tough, parking expensive, commutes by public transport uncomfortable and frustrating. Working in person where perhaps one could drive easily in a 20 min distance of their home and park in a normal lot is a lot less stressful. And, teaching, of course is in person but teachers do get summers off. I’m not suggesting teaching is easy at all - I think it’s an incredibly hard job and it pays a lot less than a lot of Feds with professional degrees were making but it may be a good fit for a small group of people.

I think this is awesome. Creative solutions.

Aren’t the local counties going to suffer as their taxable base shrinks though? There will be less tax on goods too as people cut back on spending.

Tell me you’re not paying attention to a teaching shortage without telling me you’re not paying attention.

They did the same thing during the govt shutdown (2018?) when folks were not getting paid and needed sub money.

Where have you been? All DMV school systems are this desperate, and have been since 2020. Good for FCPS. Thanks for posting, OP.
