Is Paris worth it?

Anonymous
Seems to be somewhere people either hate or love.

Never been, but wondering if its even worth it. Going to Amsterdam for work and see cheap flights from there to Marsielles or Lyon for same price as Paris.

This would be in March

Paris is worth it. Much more going on than in Lyon.

It's going to be cold and rainy in March.

Go to Paris. Skip Marseille (port city like Baltimore, it really isn't nice) and skip Lyon. If you've never been to Paris, absolutely go.

In March....ehhhh....it was worth it when I went because I was with my husband. I wouldn't go alone.

Paris is always worth it.

Paris is worth it and pretty special IF you have a good experience. I've both hated and loved it depending on the specific trip. Marseille is not worth it. Lyon is great because it is much, much cheaper than Paris for great food, some good shopping, and it is walkable and less tiring and touristy. March is not the best time to go to France as the weather may not be great for sightseeing.

+1. Paris may be rainy in March, but it won't be crowded like the summer. Go and enjoy it. There's a ton to see.

I don’t actually know anyone who does not like Paris. Parisians maybe but I’ll say that the last few times I have been there the people have been less brusque than on prior trips.

Paris is one of the greatest cities in the world. If you have an opportunity to go there, do it!

I mean I love Paris but I don't get on that Paris is the end all and be all city you must see. It's as great as many others.

The one thing I will say about Paris is that it's eclectic. If you've seen one major city you've seen them all. I think I've been to at least 50 around the world. They are all more or less the same in terms of offerings.

Paris is prob one of the more interesting ones because you get many different neighborhoods and they are very very interesting, each one. As much as I love Shanghai, Rome, Vienna and SF, SD - I can't really say the same. Ditto Amsterdam or Geneva, Milan, etc. Chicago and NYC on a much smaller scale perhaps is what I'm talking about. Maybe LA. The diversity in neighborhoods is real. I can't explain it. You have to be really into loving metro cities to appreciate Paris. Tokyo and HK are in the same vein as Paris though.

That said, I don't ever plan on taking my kids there in a family vacation. We are more the Hawaiian Islands, Beijing, Sicily, Tokyo, Croatia, hopping Greek Isles type. They would enjoy S France incl Aix/Nice, Normandy/N France better than Paris.

I would add that as someone who has been to Paris prob 10x, every time I go, I dislike it a little more, sadly.

+1 And we went in March with our kids during spring break. It was magical! Not super crowded like over the summer and we just dressed for the weather. There were days that were a little drizzly and days that were crisp, sunny and beautiful! No regrets!

Not what you asked OP, but I'd take the train from Amsterdam to Paris instead of flying. It's very easy and that way you're going straight to the city center when you get to Paris.
