Do all-in-one nanny/housekeeper/household managers not exist anymore?

Anonymous
I’m looking for a girl who can act as an all-for-one service. My kids are older and in school but I’ll need her for days they’re sick or miss school.

I want someone for about 40 hours a week and it makes sense to have them clean and run errands when not caring for kids but it seems I can only nannies who don’t do deep cleanings or housekeepers who don’t do childcare.

Yes. I am willing to pay and give benefits.

Her name would be Alice. They don’t exist anymore, but you can try offering double the usual rate.

The issue is that most people who care about children aren’t deep cleaners, and those who know how to clean, don’t much care to do childcare.

First of all, they're not girls. They're professionals and maybe they're men. For what you want you have to pay 6 figures and pretty nice benefits. At least that's what I got paid. I threw in Mandarin lessons too, and my charges are all fluent.

Insulting term for an adult woman. This is not 1952, Montgomery, AL.

No wonder no one wants to work for you.

Agree that calling an adult woman a girl, is incredibly condescending. This speaks to OP’s poor character. No doubt the “girl” would be overworked and underpaid.

OP these people don't exist anymore because people have higher standards for childcare. I don't want the person cleaning my toilet taking care of my children. Very different skill sets.

Someone would definitely take this job whether you called them a girl or not. If you haven’t found your person then you aren’t offering enough money or not being flexible enough with expectations.

I know everything I need to know about you as an employer from this. And would not consider working for you.

Are you telling me you don’t possess the skills to do both? How do you even function?

Op, as long as you are clear in your ad you will find someone.

There's less availability, but they're out there. You need to offer at least $35/hour with guaranteed pay, PTO, paid holidays, and pretty set hours while kids are in school.

I clean my toilet, take care of kids and make dinner. Entitled much?

You can probably find someone from an immigrant community who could happily keep all things running in your home; maybe consider looking for someone whose kids or grandkids also go to your kids’ school.

You need a wife. An all around domestic servant.

You want a woman, not a girl. My brother and his wife hired a nanny who also cleans. Once the youngest started full day preschool she cleaned a lot more. She picks him up from school and takes him to the playground or brings him home.

She cooks lunch each day - sometimes real cooking, sometimes heating up dinner leftovers, sometimes sandwiches - and dinner a couple nights a week. I have been to their house at all times of day, all days of the week and never seen a speck of dust anywhere.

Our children are in school until the afternoon and, when we lived abroad and in another part of the country, we had "Alices." In DMV, we hired an Alice with a guaranteed income of $75,000 plus 2 weeks vacation, 1 week sick time, and all fed holidays off and paid. Nevertheless, she was awful. She didn't want to clean and kept putting more and more conditions on cleaning - no cleaning on days the children were on vacation and at home, no cleaning outdoors, no cleaning of bathtubs or toilets. We finally gave up and hired 2 part-time people for more money.

I'm sure you can find someone good, but be prepared to pay close to 6 figures (no joke).
