Is it realistic that these agencies could actually be eliminated? |
Safe airline travel and disaster relief is so so overrated. Next time drive and move somewhere safer. |
I mean, they can try, but it will be a disaster. Get rid of TSA and do what? Replace it with private companies? Will always cost more. Way more.
No destination will let us fly in without robust security, so that's a no go. FEMA--fine. Go ahead. And see what happens there. It's a dumb one to even consider jettisoning if you are a true conservative or libertarian--with those people, the government's main job is to protect and FEMA is one agency whose sole mission is for helping citizens. |
Let’s be real TSA requires all travelers to line up next to each other. There is no screening before that happens. Someone can come straight in from the street with a bomb or guns and there is a ready made target. The cost of TSA should be borne by the industry that requires the security but all tax payers. The vast majority of Americans are lucky if they fly once a year. Why should they pay for services they do not use while subsidizing rich frequent flyers? |
Sure. Who needs disaster help or travel safety? |
It would be better if airlines were forced to fund TSA instead of tax payers. Then the people who actually fly could pay for the salaries of those who keep the flights safe. |
What about all of the jobs created by the airline industries in the airports? They should have to help with this TSA funding as well. |
Uh, yeah we did that pre 9/11. It didn’t turn out that well. |
Privatization will lead to higher costs. We've learned that lesson well already. They could be eliminated but we will pay more and get less. Which is the point. |
And people who use and pay for public transportation still support federal contributions to highways. We don't always get to use everything our tax dollars go to. |
Every airline ticket has a $5.60 security fee ($11.20 round trip) that airlines send to TSA. Unfortunately for TSA, Congress has diverted some of that money for other uses, that have nothing to do with airline security. |
Just wondering, if we eliminate everything that helps citizens (fema, tsa, medicaid, medicare, and so on), what exactly are we paying taxes for? |
They're trying to get us to dismantle the government because they are against it. |
Probably should privatize the secret service, no need for taxpayers to pay for services they don’t receive! |
Subsidizing the oligarchs and trump. |
