New glasses + prescription sunglasses for everyone, dental work, orthodontics, some necessary appointment or radiology that uses up your deductible (although will your insurance change after layoff?). Any rx's you can refill but that's likely comparatively smaller $.

You can't buy gift cards with an FSA but you can buy over the counter meds. https://fsastore.com/

Amazon also has an FSA Store

Will you definitely be unemployed or is there a chance you'll be brought back on?

Fwiw, you should be able use the funds through COBRA coverage so that should give you a bit more time to use it (although you can't use fsa to pay the premium).

Definitely get a dentist appt asap, maybe you can get work done in that time frame.

Think about stuff you'll be able to keep like bandages, otc meds, first aid kits, toothbrushes. Not expensive but it will use some of it at least.

I wrote that and did it once myself with orthodontics. I bet she could get some takers for orthodontics if she offered $3k down payment up front vs. a monthly payment plan.

Yes, radiology is harder but depends on what test and how far she'll drive.

Wait, don’t FSA funds get taken out of each paycheck? Don’t don’t you only need to spend what’s accrued from the year to date paychecks? Otherwise you’d have to pay it back. Unless your employer handles it differently.

How does this happen? That's a lot of money.

When my DH switched jobs and needed to use up FSA $$$ fast, he looked to get duplicates of things he needed when he travels. So he got a second CPAP, mouthguard, eyeglasses and then restocked the medicine cabinet.
