This is now on Hulu! I know what I am watching tonight!
From the wiki: Met with critical acclaim, A Real Pain was praised for its direction, screenplay, performances (especially Culkin's), and emotional weight.[6][7] It was named one of the top ten films of 2024 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. Culkin became the third actor in history to win Best Supporting Performance honors from the four most prestigious American film critics associations: the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the National Board of Review, the National Society of Film Critics, and the New York Film Critics Circle.[8] A Real Pain received four nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where Culkin won Best Supporting Actor. Synopsis: Mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd-couple's old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/a_real_pain |
Not a Jesse Eisenberg fan and he wrote, directed and stars in this so will pass. |
My DH and DS went to see it. Apparently it's hilarious so I will definitely be watching. I like both performers but can understand how JE can be irritating to some. |
I liked it a lot but wouldn’t call it hilarious. |
I watched it last night. It was okay to me, but not as good as I’d hoped and definitely not hilarious. Culkin’s performance was solid, but I felt the same at the end as at the beginning.
It’s hard to say more without spoilers. |
I liked it. It was touching. Very true to life. Culkin's character was indeed "a real pain."
Good to see Jennifer Gray too. |
The tour guide is from White Lotus |
I want to see it because I love Kieran but I loathe Jessie. |
I liked Jessie in his role as the reporter who followed David Foster Wallace in "The End of the Tour." |
Enlighten me about why people here don’t like Jessie Eisenberg, please? I don’t watch a lot of movies, but really enjoyed watching the Zombieland ones with my teen recently. |
I watched this tonight. I thought it was really well done but super depressing. Kieran Culkin did a great job and I see why he is winning awards for this role. |
I just want to see something that doesn’t feature any racial or ethnic themes.
Respect both themes deeply but just too much of it lately on screen. |
Maybe because his first big role was playing Mark Zuckerberg in a movie about The Facebook. So he started his career playing a total a-hole. "You will go through life thinking people don't like you because you're a nerd. But people don't like you because you're an a-hole." |
Hilarious is not the word I would use to describe this - it's about two cousins, one of whom tried to kill himself, visiting a concentration camp in Poland, while trying to figure out their own lives and reconnect with each other. There are funny moments, but it's overall not a lighthearted movie at all. I loved it. |
This is not the movie for you - it's very much about the Jewish experience. Sounds like you'd be upset by that. |
