Hilton Head at spring break with teens

Anonymous
Considering HH for MCPS spring break with two teen boys (14 and 16) and our new puppy - will be about 5.5 months.

Any recs? Kids like outdoor activities and are generally good travelers.

Happy to hear other options in similar driving distance, dog friendly with good variety of rentals that allow pets.

Thanks

In HH you go to the beach and golf. Are you looking for rental recs? Or activity recs?

Kiawah is another good option and since it’s a resort, a ton of planned daily activities with rental condos available.

Just keep the puppy leashed at all times, there are gators.

“Good travelers” at 14 and 16… huh? I’d hope so! They’re not 4 and 6!

My kids are the same ages and I consider them good travelers because they aren’t whiners/complainers/sulkers. Plenty of teens who don’t want to travel with their family’s aren’t “good travelers”
Also picky eaters can make it hard to travel.

Probably won’t be beach weather

Activity recs - not big golfers but love the beach. Biking? Kayaking? Anything else or is it really just golf and beach?

OP here - yes, same. There was a thread not so long ago where so many people were talking about miserable it was to travel with their cranky teens. That’s not an issue we have, thankfully.

Nobody wants your puppy peeing in their vacation rental.

We have a house on HHI. There is a lot more than golf and beach. Beach weather will be hit or miss. Frequently warm enough to lay on beach mid day that time of year.

You can bike everywhere, great network of paths. And you’ll the beach sand is packed enough that you can ride bike on the beach.

Depending on where you stay there is typically pickleball, tennis, croquet etc. Plenty of kayaking options. You can do a quick day trip to Savannah. Plus there are plenty of the proverbial touristy activities you would expect at the beach, mini golf, ropes course, jet skis, go karts, ice cream candy shops….

Puppy will be fine and don’t let the people with gator fear mongering change your mind. You have to go out of your way or be stupid to engage with a gator. Ie don’t walk dog along edge of pond.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, happy to answer.

Sea Pines has a horse riding center.

I second the trail rides there.

Lots to do in Hilton Head but know it probably won’t be reliable beach weather. Sea Pines has great bike paths. I highly recommend renting bikes for the time you will be there. There is mini golf, regular golf, tennis, fishing, kayaking/jet-skiing (if warm enough) and lots of good restaurants. On the sea pines website you can search properties that allow pets.

I like sea pines and renting a bike there.

We went to Hilton Head several times for spring break (once it was 90) with our kids. We loved it, biked, tennis- hung out outside. went to Savannah for the day. We stayed at a marriott time share (grand ocean), but would recommend any place near colingy or sea pines.

pp here who recommended renting in sea pines. Marriott Grand Ocean does not allow dogs. If OP leaves her dog at home that would be a great choice. I’ve stayed there several times and it’s great for teens.
