Title says it all - Do you wear a seat belt when taking Uber/Lyft?
I'm in an Uber now, not in the DMV, but am not wearing a seat belt. But when home, driving, or as a passenger while my spouse or friends are driving, I always wear one |

Always always always.
Multiple deaths and serious injuries in my family and close friend group caused by drunk and reckless drivers. I can’t imagine not wearing a seat belt. |
| Yes, of course. You can get in a car accident in any car, anywhere. It's not like a drunk driver will see that small Uber sticker and think "I better drive super carefully around THAT car." |
|
Yes, almost always.
I never used to put seatbelts on in cabs. But in an uber, it’s a regular car and they’re easy to find/use. I might skip it like if three people crowded in for a ride of a few urban blocks. But even then more likely than not. |
| Yes of course. |
| Yes, of course. |
| Why wouldn't you wear one in an uber? That makes no sense. |
| We took an Uber to a wedding tonight with a friend who’s a pediatric cardiologist. He actually said, tonight, that he always wears a seatbelt now even in the backseat of Ubers. He had a consult last week for a teenager who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from an Uber suffering a broken back and a pneumothorax. |

I'm assuming the reason people wouldn't is because if it turns out the driver is a serial killer like on TV, not wearing a seatbelt will make it easier to leap out of the moving car on the American Legion Bridge when he pulls the machete out of the glovebox.
For everyone else living with reality-based risk assessment, the odds are much higher that the car will get into an accident and the seat belt will save you, vs. the driver being a murderer. |

Ever since Princess Diana, I have always worn a seatbelt as a passenger. I didn’t always do that before her accident.
I’m probably older than you. |
|
Soooo you get in with a stranger driving and don’t use the safety restraints?
You know that physics works the same whether or not you use a ridesharing app, right? |
| Yes |
I've had more than one Uber/cab driver tell me when I asked if they wanted to put on their seatbelt that they purposely don't wear one in case a passenger tries to rob them. The cab driver said that was more prevalent in the olden days before people paid with credit cards and he had wads of cash, but still ... |

I put on my seatbelt whenever I’m driving or riding in a car.
I didn’t realize not everyone does this |
| Um what? It’s still a car. You can still die in a wreck. |
