Combo blender/food processor?

Anonymous
Kind of a niche request, but I'm looking for a combo blender and food processor. I need each sometimes, but don't need either enough to merit two separate appliances in my smallish kitchen. I've seen one or two models out there. Ideally it would have a glass pitcher, rather than plastic. Any leads?

I have a Vitamix hand blender that has a chopper attachment.

Sadly, no. I have a monster Cuisinart food processor. To me, this is essential for making hummus, pie crust, pesto, other sauces and chutneys. I cannot do those in a blender. Then I have a basic immersion blender (not high end), which perfect for milkshakes, soups, and smoothies. Between these two I can make most things

OP here. Thanks - I used to have that monster Cuisinart food processor as well as a Vitamix so I know what it's all about. I'm not looking for a blender to take over a food processor's duties because that won't work. Rather I'm looking for an appliance that has interchangeable modules for each. I've seen a model or two, just haven't used one and was hoping someone could.

On a side note, is your immersion blender able to handle frozen fruit for smoothies?

No, my immersion blender can’t do frozen solid fruit.

The only appliance I’ve personally seen that can act as a blender and a food processor is a Theromix. I have a German friend (I believe they are popular in Germany) that swears by it. I’ve seen her use it and it is pretty extraordinary. However it is very expensive looks to be complicated. It has many many functions.

I have a Cuisinart immersion blender. I found frozen fruit doable with difficulty (add one or two chunks at a time, for example). Finally, what I started doing is cutting up the frozen pieces with a kitchen knife. It's work but it works. Berries, of course, are fine, just don't add them all at once because they will turn into a berry iceball.

There’s probably nothing you couldn’t start in the food processor and then finish with the immersion blender.

But if I had to lose one, I’d probably make the call based on what you personally do most. If you make smoothies a lot, you wouldn’t want to have to do a song a dance for a smoothie just so you can make pie crust once a year. There are other ways to make pie crust.

Personally, I would keep the vitamix and do more chopping, mandolin, whatever.

OP here. Thanks for the responses.

I have an immersion blender and a tiny Cuisinart 2 cup food processor. I've been making it work with just these but it's not ideal.

The main thing I miss with a blender is smoothies, which I can't really replicate with another appliance. Honestly, smoothies are the main thing and that's why it feels kind of silly to get a full-sized blender just for that (but I and my kids really do miss smoothies!).

I used my former huge food processor less, but it's one of those things that when I needed it, nothing could compensate. Having to pulse tiny amounts in my little food processor is doable but very time consuming.

I appreciate the brainstorming on what/how I can substitute. Thanks for the ideas.

I have this food processor attachment for my Vitamix:

It works well, though if you get all the discs, you still need a fair amount of storage space.

My Vitamin immersion blender can handle ice and it's chopper is plenty large for most recipe ingredients.. I tend to like hand sliced the most though as the pieces are more uniform .

I wish I could get a glass or stainless steel container for my cuisinart and vitamix so I could put them in dishwasher

A quick google showed that Vitamix does offer a Stainless Steel container steel https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/shop/48-ounce-stainless-steel-container. Perhaps glass is a safety issue considering how powerful the machines are?
