| My daughter (25) went and did the one thing I always advised her never to do: get a tattoo. It’s of a hippopotamus and is really ugly. I just can’t understand why someone would get a tattoo of a hippo! I’ll admit it’s well-done but this is just disappointing. I’ve always said, ever since she was a little girl, that tattoos are a bad idea. She said that “she wanted to do it for a long time” and “it has nothing to do with me” but I somehow doubt that. I just am SO disappointed. Ugh. What’s a mom to do? |

| I’m sorry. Just ignore it. Hope it’s in a non conspicuous place. |
| Go back to the Troll Bridge and make yourself a nice cup of tea. |
| Troll |
A famous Pygmy hippo from earlier this year. Just wondering. For real advice, your kid is 25, so not much can be done at this point. |
| OP here. I was expecting a bit of vitriol but this is just beyond the pale. I’m not a “troll” and I will not “Go back to the Troll Bridge”. Let’s all be adults here. |

| remind yourself she is own person. She alone controls her body. |
Hey, please be nice to OP. She’s going through a really hard time and no one likes to be called a troll. Let’s have some empathy, friend. |
| You are entitled to be disappointed and she is entitled to get her tattoo, she is also entitled to be disappointed that her mother can't view her as an actual adult. Maybe someday! |
At what point is her own woman? |

I hope you haven't told her you're disappointed in her. We don't get to preach "my body, my choice" and any variation of that and then tell someone we are disappointed in them or shame them for what they choose to do with their body.
I also have no idea why you would think her getting a tattoo is about you. I always liked what my sister did (DS is too young to even have the tattoo talk with). She never said don't get a tattoo because she knows it's pointless. She did talk to them about tattoo placement , appropriate tattoos, and fad tattoos. My niece has a small tattoo she got in memory of her childhood friend who passed. You only ever see it when she's wearing a bikini or less. Can't really find anything wrong with that. It's never going to cause any issues in her life because most people are never going to know she has it. |
