So it seems like we’re planning to have snow in the DMV area this Monday around the start of midnight. I recently checked weather forecasting and it says around most areas in the county to receive around 5-5.5 inches of snow at most. Possibly the first school closing of the year? |
I know I know. It’s tough. My HS sr is so annoyed to have to return to school tomorrow rather than next Monday 1/6. Anything is possible and I won’t count on a school closing next Monday. And I’m not opposed it either (mom). |
HS Teacher here - Surprised it took this long for someone to post about it (I didn't have time earlier.)
Yes - I expect our first snow day on Monday especially because of the timing of it (Sunday night into Monday). Definitely going to be road problems. The one thing that I hope is that Dr. Taylor follows through with his promises of more timely announcements. Here's to hoping it's announced officially Sunday night by 6 pm. But meanwhile, I'm already planning for snow and have adjusted my lessons/homework plans for the next few school days. |
+1 MCPS is terrible at timing when it comes to closings and delays. They always announce it at like 9-10 pm when my kids are about to go to bed. |
If it really happens, I think we almost certainly have at least one snow day, and I wouldn't be surprised if we had a second snow day or delay on Tuesday. |
Or they can go virtual. |
It’ll be my kids first day back. She’s private but we follow moco. I think they’ll be closed and a delay on Tues.
if we get 6+ inches though I can see Tuesday being closed too. |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO |
If you want an announcement 12 + hours before school starts when the snow may not have started yet, please do not complain if the decision was wrong in hind sight. |
Plan for at least a 2 hr delay. |
Plan, but don't panic either way. The models are still all over the place. Every time there's a new model run, the snow impact shift 200 miles south or north. There is a northward trend anyway in the winter storm season, so the most snow potential we have is if models are currently predicting snow just slightly to our south. This is the nature of our DC area: we hardly ever know whether we're getting school-closure level snow until it's actually snowing!!! So patience, everyone, and please observe the golden rule: the app predictions are mostly wrong. You need to rely on actual local meteorologist knowledge, people who know the area well. |
Nope. No longer allowed. |

There have been like 10 threads on this already. Keep up! |
I thought they stopped using Code Purple? |
