Aritzia’s crap return policy

Anonymous
I ordered from Aritzia for the first time ever after hearing about them on this site. Found what I thought was a cute winter jacket for a good sale price, but my daughter doesn’t want it. Now I see anything purchased on sale can only be returned for store credit? Lame. My fault. I should have read the fine print. But still lame.

On top of that, you have only a 14 day window. Except for holiday purchases, in which case you have til Jan 5. But their website doesn’t seem to know this, and it says I’ve exceeded the allowed time to return when I log in and pull up the order. If I call, I’m on hold forever. If I email, I get an auto reply saying they’ll get back to me in 5-7 days.

Thank for listening to why I will never order from this company again. (Except to spend my stupid store credit, if I ever manage to get it.)

Don’t buy if you aren’t sure. It’s easy.

It’s a surprisingly awful return policy and very out of step with most retailers.

And, PP, you can never be certain when you’re buying a gift!

Yeah, no. That’s not how it works in this day and age.

NP. Ridiculous. You'd need a 3D avatar and digital model of the clothes to get it right every time.

Agree my daughter has a $20 gift card from them she can’t find something to use on because of a return. Annoying.

The worst. Plus the way they set up the dressing rooms so that you have to come out to see yourself in a mirror. They want to discourage people from trying things on in the store so you’re stuck with their crappy return policy if you take a chance and don’t like what you bought.

Agree, OP. I’ve been waiting for one of their AMAZING sweatshirts for way too long now- missed the Xmas deadline and it’s apparently sitting in West Virginia now. I hate this company and I haven’t even tried returning stuff yet. Will not order from them again.

+1 on their return policy. But there are plenty of items at Aritzia you or your daughter might use your gift card on - effortless pants, contour tops, Citizens or Agolde jeans. I personally find their t-shirts and socks to be good quality for the price as well.

Another bad thing: the plastic tags on their coats have one end inside the lining, so that they are basically unremovable.

Same for Lululemon

OP, I agree this policy sucks, but a lot of retailers have shifted to this. Lululemon and Jcrew are two that i can think of offhand. Pretty much everything that is in the sale section at jcrew (sale vs subject to a discount) is "final sale" and no returns allowed. I see this more and more. So something will be like 15% off original price at jcrew, and you can't return it.

These stores are essentially just fast fashion warehouses, so i get that it makes no economic sense for them to accept returns on stuff they are trying to offload. Online retailers seem to have chosen two paths to deal with this (i) the "no returns for stuff on sale" system (but still free returns for other stuff); or (ii) returns for a restocking fee (including stuff not on sale).

As i get older, and time is more valuable and i have money, i find i prefer spending the $8 to return stuff. I figure it is less than what i would spend to drive to the mall and get starbucks, had i bought (and returned it) in person.

Aritzia is the worst. And their in store (Tysons) sales associates will blatantly lie to you. I have found their online chat helpful.

Online Jcrew shopping is the absolute worst. Can’t return anything on sale. Aritzia abd that 14 days is ridiculous. Sorry op. Maybe you can sell the gift card?

Aritzia is absolutely terrible about this. Last year they had 20% off everything sale for Black Friday. However (unknown to anyone purchasing anything) that meant that ANYTHING bought online or in any store on Black Friday was only returnable for merchandise credit. .

I didn't know this (it certainly wasn't advertised at the time of check-out) and bought something online that ended up not fitting. Took it back the day it arrived to the store and was told it wasn't returnable since it was purchase on sale. (It was back to full price in store so it wasn't like it was a clearance item--it was simply purchased with the Black-Friday site-wide 20% off). I called customer service and escalated my complaint to their management and was given a "one time courtesy return."

Never again.
