| 46, struggling with hair loss and my hair just looks dry, thin and like straw. I went for a physical and all seems fine. Derma recommended I try prescription dandruff shampoo which feels drying but may be what I need. What else can I do to bring life back? |

Yes and all checked out at normal levels |
| Do you happen to have hard water? We moved into a new house last spring that has well water, and my hair is a damn mess. I thought it was menopause. It’s not – it’s the well water. |

What color is your hair? If you dont mind some red, try using henna. I tried it to cover grey and now my mousey brown hair is a rich auburn color with a luxurious texture.
I get compliments at least weekly on the color and healthy look of my hair. Henna coats the hair which makes it feel thicker. I do it at home, so very little cost. |

NP, I use a henna shampoo. Long ago, I used henna (colora brand, which comes in different shades) and the shampoo does not have the same effect but it does add a reddish color and I think it blends nicely with my gray. Henna also adds body to the hair because it coats the strands. Would avoid using dandruff shampoo, very harsh. You might want to look into curly girl method even if you aren’t curly just to get a sense of avoiding silicones and sulfates, it might be gentler on your hair. Or google natural dandruff shampoo. Also recommend looking into using a hair oil - I wouldn’t go the expensive route but go to the ethnic hair care section at Target and get argan oil or something along those lines. (I’m white and using argan oil makes my hair soft and shiny) |

I personally like the brand, Rainbow for henna. You can create a henna paste or a henna rinse. I don’t leave it in too long as I like my greys darkened instead of dyed. About once every 6 weeks. It does make my hair feel fuller and shinier but if I use it too often it will feel drier.
Another tip, if you wash your hair everyday, try to shampoo less often, maybe 2-3 times a week |
| I'm 48 and just had to change the hair products I use after washing and conditioning. Went from Mixt Chicks to Bumble & Bumble leave in conditioner. Made a world of difference! |

You kind of have to be scientific to fix the problem through trial and error.
Apple cider vinegar rinses remove buildup (a splash of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water). Protein treatments strengthen weak hair, but too much protein will make your hair hard and dry. Follow the directions on the product. Deep conditioning treatments, weekly, will add moisture and shine. Look for treatments that rely more on oils than on silicones. I schedule in these three treatments in every week for my hair, and do it all at home. I do have good hair. If I didn't do these things, and have a water filter on my shower head, I would not have nice hair. |
