What color is your hair? If you dont mind some red, try using henna. I tried it to cover grey and now my mousey brown hair is a rich auburn color with a luxurious texture. I get compliments at least weekly on the color and healthy look of my hair. Henna coats the hair which makes it feel thicker. I do it at home, so very little cost.
NP, I use a henna shampoo. Long ago, I used henna (colora brand, which comes in different shades) and the shampoo does not have the same effect but it does add a reddish color and I think it blends nicely with my gray. Henna also adds body to the hair because it coats the strands. Would avoid using dandruff shampoo, very harsh. You might want to look into curly girl method even if you aren’t curly just to get a sense of avoiding silicones and sulfates, it might be gentler on your hair. Or google natural dandruff shampoo. Also recommend looking into using a hair oil - I wouldn’t go the expensive route but go to the ethnic hair care section at Target and get argan oil or something along those lines. (I’m white and using argan oil makes my hair soft and shiny)
