I am my own victim and I hate it

Every day I decide to eat well. I almost never can go the whole day. I self-sabotage constantly. I wish I didn't have to buy food, cook it and think about it. It doesn't have to be junk either. I just gorged on dates, I can gorge on cheese...anything.

Perhaps you need therapy to understand why you overeat? I eat when I'm anxious. When I am aware of that and try to talk myself out of my worry, and/or try to distract myself with other things... I don't eat as much.

Put a pic of a squirrel on your fridge or food cabinet. It will remind you that you are not a squirrel. Unless you are of course. Take control. It's not that difficult. Any time you get cravings go for a walk. Your health will thank you. Don't be a glutton.

I think it’s very difficult! It’s like I actually am a squirrel at times.

If you are gorging on random things throughout the day, I wonder if you are drinking enough water and eating enough at each meal to keep you full.

Gorge on veggies. Can't go wrong.

Dates have sugar, otherwise they're healthy.

You can prepare some snacks to gorge on like celery sticks and carrot πŸ₯• sticks.

OP when I am ravenously hungry or I don't feel full enough, I eat indiscriminately.

Do you enough fat in your meals to feel full longer?

Are you really hungry or bored or anxious?

Have you tried drinking water or brushing your teeth instead of gorging?

Yesterday I was early picking up my dog πŸΆπŸ• from the groomer. I stopped at McDonald's for free large fries 🍟 and a diet coke. I never would have done that but I couldn't resist the smell. Luckily the fries were cold and not crispy, and I didn't want them after I ate one.

Don't let yourself get so hungry that it triggers the need to binge.

Really. In any case don't beat up on yourself. Evidence is piling up that "dieting" is useless for most of us.

Find yourself snacks you can gorge on without feeling bad. Whatever works for you. Celery, carrots, broccoli with sprinkle cheese, grapes, popcorn - something you can eat in massive quantities when you need to scratch that itch. Some of us just eat like that and it's just not sustainable to set yourself a goal of not being the person you are.

You may not be getting enough calories in your regular meals, too - just something to consider.

Perhaps therapy? Good that it isn’t junk, but agree you do need to limit portions for high calorie items. Tell yourself, you will have 3 and only 3 dates for dessert. Put them away and do not go back for more. Drink a cup of water or hot tea. If you literally cannot do this, I think you cross the line from normal cravings to binge or compulsive eating. But there are meds for this! Plus therapy.

As do the vast majority of Americans apparently.

I think my brain goes off track into a different territory. It would be easier never eating in a way because if I go to the fridge, I want to go a second time, a third time. Sometimes I am hungry, others it is anxiety and stress. It's like I have self control 70% of the time, and the 30% of the time completely trips me up.

Same here. I really do a lot of anxiety eating.
