3pm ED release???

Anonymous
I’ve now heard of at least 2 schools releasing ED decisions at 3pm. Seriously? When these poor stressed out kids are at school? So they can either find out in front of their peers (and in many cases burst into tears) or race home? I hope very few of them drive, especially on the highway.

Just unforced stupidity.

As a parent, if you have these concerns, I think you can encourage your child to wait until they have a calm space at home to open the portal. The admissions messages do not self-destruct.

Yet there was someone in another thread complaining about 5 PM.

This is what we encouraged our kid to do last year--wait and open at home.

Okay

I agree, OP.

It seems like an unkind thing for these schools to do. Just wait until 5pm.

So many other things to worry about.

Funny, I always cynically assumed the colleges who released at 5pm did so so that they could then leave the office and not have to answer the countless calls from complaining, crying, ddisbelieving applicants/parents/private counselors.

It's weird. The one school even mentioned "I know you may still be in school but..."

What's the issue with this? People are so reactive these days and I don't fault anyone for not wanting to be subjected to abuse.

You DO know that 5 pm here is 2 pm on the west coast, right? Seriously, the fact that people get this hung up over the timing of a college admission email is ridiculous. It’s fine for kids to be disappointed; it’s a natural reaction to not getting what you work for and want. But parents need to own their part in escalating how much their kids get invested in a single college or attending a selective college, rather than blaming the timing of the email.

MCPS kids get out of school at 2:30 or earlier.

Where'd you hear 3pm? Haven't heard a time.

Many (most?) public school kids have departed school by 3pm. On a bus, so they aren't driving themselves. I wonder if the circles you move in might not be representative of most ED applicants?

Brown, Dartmouth and Hopkins are all 3pm. Check CC for all the times.
