Brown, Dartmouth and Hopkins are all 3pm. Check CC for all the times.

That’s noon on the west coast.

It seems like an unkind thing for these schools to do. Just wait until 5pm.

You DO know that 5 pm here is 2 pm on the west coast, right? Seriously, the fact that people get this hung up over the timing of a college admission email is ridiculous. It’s fine for kids to be disappointed; it’s a natural reaction to not getting what you work for and want. But parents need to own their part in escalating how much their kids get invested in a single college or attending a selective college, rather than blaming the timing of the email.

This. The myopia is insane.

Nevermind OP is freaking out and starting a thread over a *rumor.* Like at least wait and see if it gets released at 3 AND if there are actually negative impacts before having a full blown temper tantrum about it.

It must be so hard for kids to watch their parents lose their $hit over this process that isn't even actually about their futures. Parents should be a source of perspective and calm, not feeding into anxiety and drama.

OP here. It's not a "rumor"- the emails from these colleges explicitly state that results will be out at 3pm. How much harder would it be for them to release them at 7pm EST or later when the vast majority of kids are out of school?

And I'm not "freaking out"- I'm just noting that it's remarkably lacking in empathy.

College admission should take a hint from their own college's pattern of communication. In premed, Friday afternoon is avoided as a time to post grades in fear of students drowning their sorrows in alcohol. Early in the day on Saturday, or early in the day on Sunday is better.

Maybe they've decided that they want to have their IT offices open in case something goes wrong? If the system glitches at 7 PM on a Friday night, there's probably a lone IT person on duty. Or maybe if individual kids have trouble, they have a chance to get some tech support?

Many (most?) public school kids have departed school by 3pm. On a bus, so they aren't driving themselves. I wonder if the circles you move in might not be representative of most ED applicants?

Uh, you know that 3pm on the east coast means noon on the west coast, right? Even worse. It makes me angry that these schools can’t just wait a few hours so kids aren’t so stressed out in front of their peers, some of whom applied to the same school. I don’t understand why they’d intentionally release when most kids across the country are still in school. As if the whole process weren’t already crazy stressful.

It's 3pm now. What's getting released?

If you’re so worked up over things that you’re going to crash your car if you don’t get in, maybe you should wait until you get home to open the email. Then mommy or daddy can hold your hand while you do it.

This is the most ridiculous thread, and that’s saying a lot. Open it whenever you feel ready. You’ve waited this long, a few more hours won’t make a difference if you’re really that emotionally fragile.

Anyway, I thought the kids were all making reaction videos for their social media?

Really? Who cares?
The decision will be the same if you open at 3pm, 5pm, 10pm or tomorrow. Get ahold of yourself, people.

Swarthmore coming at 7pm ET

Who got in!?

I believe Brown is 3pm.

I’m with you, OP. It’s an unkind thing to do.

Hopkins ED anyone?

You know you can wait, right? Michigan comes out at 3pm too (in January). DD knew her dad (alum) last year really wanted to be there with her and she waited until he was home at night. The acceptance email was still there.
