NCSL is more strict than ODSL when it comes to guests/moving players so that could have been a factor.

Agree but that wasn't the point. The point was that it is possible that several of their teams were not necessarily going to be competitive in NCSL and likely needing to be in ODSL. This could have left them short of the 5 necessary for NCSL.

However, as a PP pointed out it is more likely due to the card flexibility between EDP and ODSL versus the roster pain that NCSL in fact is.

At a previous club, there was no issue with rostering players between NCSL and other leagues. Both EDP and NCSL accept club passes for guest playing as long as the player is carded by the relevant club. I don’t see how selecting NCSL would have been an issue, but the feedback on skill level is relevant and probably the overriding reason, in that case.

Development is not that binary. After a year and a half I've seen how Barca handles this. Players don't develop equally, at the same pace, and it's quite individual. How can a borderline player on a top team be challenged by putting them with a lower team? It's counter intuitive, but Barca gives them challenging situations. Can they become the leader? On the top team a borderline player will be trying to keep up but probably not leading. With the lower team, Barca may put them into a different position and challenge them to be a more vocal leader on the field. The player may be willing to take more risks against lower competition and develop their creativity. They may be challenged by putting them into a different position than they are used to - put a right back into center back, or put them into mid field to see what they can do and develop a different part of their game. Barca keeps a report card on every player, identifying in which areas they need to develop, and finding situations to develop it. Also, overflow goes in both directions. The top players on a top team also need more challenge, and will be brought into the top team at a higher age group, leaving more space for overflow. Girls may train or play on boys teams to get more challenge. Challenging situations can also be created when teams are mismatched and playing against each other. This happens often in internal competitions which are every week. The better team will be required to complete X number of passes before scoring, or every player on the team must touch the ball at least once before scoring. Barca does all these things all the time and I've seen the development in my two kids over the last year and a half. Putting teams in ODSL is not about winning games for Barca. It's about putting players into positions where they can best develop the skills and soccer IQ that they are teaching.

How much are they paying you to praise their gospel? This style of play only works if everyone on the fields knows what the hell they are doing, based on my observation after seeing a few Barca teams they have some good players but the fact that they will take anyone means your 2nd/3rd team has no business playing.

ODSL sportsmanship expectations: "Running up the score on another team serves no one's purpose. Nowhere in our procedures is there anything that gives your team status, or an advantage in the standings, by posting a large number in the "goals for" column. Goal differentials of 7 goals or more in one match are likely to initiate a call from the Commissioner or President to the Clubrep of the offending team." Just saying it.

They are in one of the lower brackets so they will not be playing top level teams, but you will get a sense of how they play.

The second teams in the younger age groups are usually pretty bad so you might want to make sure that your son is offered a spot on the top team before accepting the offer.

Are you really bashing 9/10 year olds? OMG. In the younger years 07s, 08s, 09s, they did get many first team players from all over the dmv - especially being so young in the players development phase. Many of the kids you are playing are playing up 1 or 2 years even. They use the games as development. But, pat yourself on the back for having a 10-year old phenom they are not worthy of I think this is exactly why many of the families are here, to avoid that crazy sideline sentiment.

Why do you feel it necessary to make such a smug comment about a bunch of 10 year old kids? It is totally unnecessary and classless. In this age group, I would be more concerned about the large roster size that PP mentioned. The kids still have time to improve regardless of their current level, but if the roster is bloated, they won't get enough in touches in games and won't develop sufficiently.
