Would you still feel the same way if he were your daughter’s husband? Or your own? Your best advice is for him to leave the mother of his children because she has mental health issues? Admirable.

Yes. She isn’t a healthy mother. She’s absent and disappears (one of her own traumas) to treatment all the time. She’s high all the time, and when she’s not, she’s depressed and crying or sleeping. That isn’t healthy parenting. Nova is still plastic, and she would adjust.

It’s alsk not healthy for Tyler, who could move on and provide stability for Nova. Mom is not stable. Mom bolting is not stable. Moms depression is not stable.

I think she just does what she can to avoid much of life. Last year it was not getting out of bed. This year it is going to treatment for lots of time (even after being discharged after the treatment plan was done.) Obviously, whatever problem there is (depression, PTSD, pot, etc.) going on meds or treatment for 6 weeks isn't going to fix it. Going to a therapist where there isn't real work being done isn't going to fix it. She needs to find a LOCAL outpatient great doctor and start really following that plan.

The show has a requirement that she essentially relive the Carly part of her life repeatedly. It is filmed; she continues meeting with the adoption counselor years post-adoption; she speaks about adoption around the country (and yet all this time this is apparently something she suffers trauma from and is still voluntarily reliving it?) I do think she desparately wants to be a good mother but she is so incredibly needy and selfish and broken. We all can't forget that it went from literally top of the world, I'm pregnant, to I want to kill myself today. Yes, that is PTSD, I'm guessing, but she needs more than a 6 week vacation-type escape.

And her daughter doesn’t need to be around that and become anothe codependent Tyler. So not healthy.

Did anyone watch the reunion show? Damn I hate Dr. Drew. His talk with Farrah was so weird. And why does Sophia know what she does?!

It is so sad that Tyler acts like the grown up parent to his wife and his parents. All the sick people in his family put him in a life long support role. It's too much.

On the flip side, both Tyler's wife and dad are now sober and he isn't. You're either addicted or incredibly selfish if you'd still smoke pot with caitlyn and butch in sobriety.

It’s pot dude. You know it’s legal in a bunch of states now right? I actually think pot would help Caitlyn with her anxiety. It’s not like Tyler is doing heroin. I don’t understand why dr drew even brought up him smoking pot. It’s stupid.

The real druggie is Ryan. My god he needs help and so do his parents. It’s very sad.

Pot was not doing Catelynn any favors. She had a horrible hacking cough and was completely out of it ,out of the time.

Tyler seemed a bit off during the reunion...Is he using something stronger than weed..?
Anonymous
I wish Catelynn could summon the strength to leave the show. I'm sure being filmed and also being forced to relive the trauma of giving up Carly is a major factor with her mental illness. No amount of money is worth mental health suffering. She is wearing golden handcuffs.

That's dumb thinking. Not talking about Carly or adoption wouldn't have made it any less real or painful for her. The "Carly" part of her life is something that would have and will effect her with or without a tv show. It's traumatic to place a child for adoption and she still needs support. Unfortunately, the counselors at adoption agencies are not generally actual trained mental health professionals and that is what she needed

You’re wrong. Yes, the adoption was part of her life but for someone who considers that part of ptsd, reliving it as is required on the show isn’t in her best interests. See here why:

Uh, guess you smoke it. No... It would not help Caitlyn.

What a dud of a reunion show. Except for seeing the train wreck that is Ryan and all his enablers around him. None of them were banking on Dr Drew being an addiction medicine specialist who knows enough to expose his total BS. I’m sure they all thought the worst would be from Maci. The look on Ryan’s face was priceless. The face of a person who’s never been held to any standard in his entire life.

I was in and out of the room, but I'm pretty sure Tyler confirmed he's bipolar to Dr. Drew.

Tyler and Catelynn need to go their separate ways and individuate from one another. Their relationship has become so codependent, so familial, and keeps them endlessly trapped in the mindset of the messed up teens they once were. It's all so disturbingly conjoined at this point- they have no lives outside of one another and are forever locked in these sick rolls of "the depressed and sick one" and "the caretaker."

Catelynn needs to develop her inner strength and will never be able to do so in this relationship where for damn near 15 years she's been the damaged one who Tyler fixes. Tyler deserves to not be everyone's fixer too. They would be so, so much healthier parting ways and actually DEVELOPING A LIFE ooutaide of this bizarre pre-teen/pseudo sibling relationship they have been in since age 11.
