Q: Rescission are something Dems have said is a reason for a lack of trust. What rescissions are you discussing?
JOHNSON: We have more than $37t in debt. We're doing everything we can to get us back to sound fiscal responsibility. What does that include? A rescission package is part of our process So this is the difficulty. Not just how do we get to a deal, but how do we get to a deal we trust will be honored when Johnson is here *promising* to let Trump impound and take back whatever he wants from what they pass? |

Why did he need the excuse of a shutdown to layoff?
Couldn't he do the same layoffs when there was no shutdown? |
|
lol This is such a screwup. The GOP has so missed the fact that saying you don’t want a shutdown and then RIFing however many more people this represents is at fundamental odds. Vought and Miller and Trump are birds of a feather: little boys being spiteful and destructive without any strategy whatsoever. Can’t wait for the chickens to come home to roost. |
Keep up. The layoffs were implied in the bill that couldn't be passed, which is an important reason why the Democrats couldn't vote for it. Implied, because the bill calls for staggering cuts in funding to federal agencies, so enormous that they cannot be implemented without losing a major portion of the workforce. |
Yes and no. They can't do these layoffs legally without a shutdown or with a shutdown. |
And they're doing it just as things are starting to get bad at airports. I assume they aren't firing any ATCs or TSA, but the general public will just hear that lots of feds are getting fired and then see the delayed flights and packed airports and assume they are connected. |
Me again. If the White House does layoffs during the shutdown, they own them entirely, and will carry 100% of the blame. The Democrats are OK with that, because the alternative was allowing the bill to pass, and therefore shouldering a portion of the blame. The White House calculus, on the other hand, was to try to threaten Democrats with these layoffs, which hurt feds in the most cruel way... but it under-estimated the desperation of the other side. Democrats have nothing to lose now. They need to push the White House into doing really stupid things, so the American public realizes that Trump is not on their side. |
Duffy has said that he will be firing ATC who call out sick, which so far is about 10% of them. Making the current delays at airports permanent. It's a great plan. |
Yes, but he has to follow the procedures of 'Reduction in Force' and show these jobs are not needed. That is easy to do when they are deemed non-essential as part of a shutdown. |
