Mass Deportation: this is going to be expensive

SCOOP: The Trump admin has repurposed the controversial Biden era CBP One cell phone app into a self deportation app called CBP Home that launches today. DHS tells me any migrants who had the prior CBP One app will have it auto update to this new app, & DHS can use data from prior CBP One registrations to track migrants for removal.

The new app allows illegal aliens and migrants in the US to register with CBP to self deport. They fill out biographical information, including their countries of citizenship, which country they plan to return to, their alien registration numbers, contact information, and it allows them to upload photos of themselves to confirm their identity. All of it is then submitted to CBP, and they leave the country.

You may be asking yourself – why would an illegal alien want to self deport?

In a statement to FOX News – DHS Secretary Kristi Noem answers that question.

“The CBP Home app gives aliens to option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return,” Noem said. “The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than one million aliens to enter the United States. With the launching of the CBP Home app, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system.”

DHS says it is significantly cheaper for the US if illegal aliens decide to self deport, and limited ICE resources can instead be used to target criminal aliens.

According to CBP data, roughly 40-50 thousand migrants were entering the US every month via the CBP One app during the Biden administration, totaling nearly one million by the end of his presidency.

Trump terminated the program on day one of his presidency, leading to scenes of migrants crying at the border when they realized their appointments had been cancelled.

The Trump admin has essentially hijacked the Biden admin program, a key pillar of his immigration policy, and has repurposed it for opposite effect.

How is this a hijacking? I'm told on this forum that Biden was all about deportations.

DOJ is prosecuting a couple for illegal entry two years ago.
This will encourage self deportation.

You do realize that the money came from the feds, right? The feds reimburse all of those costs through Title 3. It's not the local county that was paying for it. Just letting you know that this has nothing to do with the budget shortfall. Fairfax County has had shortfalls before. Remember when they were going to cut all the music programs in the elementary schools? That was not very long ago.

Can you help me find your sources?

The FY2026 FCPS Proposed Budget shows ~$38M coming from the State for English for Speakers of Other Languages (p150) and I'll go out on a limb and say some or all of that "state" money is coming from Title III funding/grants given from the Federal government to Virginia. Additional direct "Federal" revenue comes in around $50M, of which $40M is marked for Special Education/IDEA (p151).

But the expenditure side does confirm some 9-figure annual outlays that a PP mentioned (but also didn't quote a specific source). FCPS indeed proposes to spend ~$106M dollars on ESOL (p152) -- a far cry from the $38M they receive from another government source.

I'm just starting to dive into various schools' budgets and they're not always easy to decipher. How else might those Title III funds you spoke of be accounted for at the local level?

It will be challenged easily. The Alien Enemies Act is used against citizens of countries that the US is at war with. Trump would first have to get Congress to declare war on VZ.

Also, Trump is deporting that many people. Could be why he's desperate to find other ways to deport them. He hates that the US has laws and rules to follow.

Prisoners are only allowed outside their cells for 30 minutes of exercise, Bible study, to attend online court hearings within the prison, or to be placed into solitary confinement. Prisoners are not allowed outside recreation, visitations, or phone calls. Prisoners are provided meals of rice, beans, eggs, and pasta, but utensils are not provided as the prison's administrations believes that they could potentially become weapons. The Salvadoran government does not plan to release any prisoner from CECOT and Minister of Justice and Public Security Gustavo Villatoro has stated that prisoners incarcerated at CECOT would never return to their communities. Villatoro also ruled out rehabilitation programs for CECOT's inmates.
