The girl that survived. Is she physically okay? Or disabled? That poor girl.

She looks physically ok, as in she walked without crutches or a wheelchair at court. Who knows what physical and mental pains she deals with daily. She did mention that she has PTSD and she's getting counseling.

BINGO!!!! These are my thoughts exactly! Usman mentioned during his sentencing statement that his sister who is attending Oakton HS has been bullied for his actions. I mean not that I condone bullying but these are consequences of his reckless actions! At least she is alive, the other 2 aren't! The surviving victim also attends Oakton so I can see it creating an uncomfortable situation for both. Things that Usman could have avoided!!!

Neither of these people are involved. They should be able to attend without bullying.

DP, yeah that’s the point, but they can’t because of his selfish and reckless actions.

No. Bullying is bullying. No one should be bullying her. She’s not her brother.

DP.

First off, you completely misconstrued the point of the post that you're replying to: the two victims whose lives were needlessly stolen from them should be able to attend school without bullying, but it's impossible now because of his selfish and reckless actions.

Secondly, it's unclear whether his sister is being bullied based on the same standard of "bullying" that's been thrown around by Shahid supporters in this forum...which would effectively mean that the amount of bullying she's seeing is negligible.

Thirdly, it's disgusting and inappropriate how brazenly Shahid's supporters have been trying to hijack the sympathy owed to the victims of his crime ever since the incident.

Can anyone explain to me like I'm five why there weren't more charges? Like reckless driving, driving without a license, or a third charge of some sort regarding the victim who survived?

Reckless driving and driving without a license wouldn’t be punished with jail time. When the prosecution adds lesser offenses they risk the jury convicting only for those offenses if they are sympathetic to the defendant (as this jury was, judging by the sentence). There’s benefits to giving the jury only one option, especially when there’s strong evidence for the stiffest charges.

Yes they are.

A first time offender will never get jail for reckless driving or driving without a license.

Leeyan Yan
Feb. 4, 2007 - June 7, 2022

She was our family’s treasure, sunshine.
The sweet memories of her are our strength to live now.
We are relieved she is with the Lord now,
we will meet her soon over there.

So beautiful and so very sad.

My comment was deleted but I think what people are trying to say is that the school administrators and the students should be careful to not engage in behavior against the perp’s sister because she is a minor who is not at fault. Nobody knows whether she is being bullied, what the standard of bullying is etc. Again nobody is sorry for Shahid.

It's a sad outcome for everyone involved. It would have been easier if he had been remorseful but sadly, he wasn't and doesn't accept responsibility for the lives he took. He simply acknowledged being reckless. I wish he had been more sincere with his statement to offer these families closure. I hope he learns compassion and empathy while in jail or prison. Seems his parents didn't raise him with these traits, maybe he will make friends with some kind of mentor type figure in jail/prison and come out a better person!

RIP to the beautiful souls lost and sending healing vibes to the injured survivor.

Can any of the attorneys weigh in? Is this some sort of strategy for the civil case. Where he doesn’t accept responsibility?

I’m not his supporter.

No one should be bullying the sister. We should all be able to agree to that, right?

Who even knows if it's true or not. He could have just said it to gain sympathy from the jurors... What other reason is there for even bringing that up?

Those parents received a life sentence.. he could have used that time to apologize for killing their children rather than claiming bullying! 🙄

Or course not. But, there isn't a criminal charge for bullying.
