APS Closing Nottingham

Nah. AEM is slow these days so the crazy came over here.

The APEs don't post much on AEM anymore, they saw their views were not accepted by the mainstream so they post anon over here instead and pretend there are more of them than there really are. In reality it is just a few bitter and loud parents who still feel wronged by the pandemic.

I’m part of both groups (although not active, more of a lurker) because I like to see what is going on. I don’t think either group is the “mainstream.” The actual mainstream of us think the regulars in those groups are just a loud minority.

I can remember when they renovated Nottingham. They bused all the kids to an old school on Wilson Blvd in Rosslyn for a year. I think Jamestown went through a renovation around that time, but those parents opted to leave their kids at Jamestown and have the construction work carried out around them.

The Wilson school was taken over when the new HB Woodlawn site was created when HB was made to move out of Vacation Lane (now Dorothy Hamm).

It was odd when they built an elementary school at Discovery because Tuckahoe/Nottingham/Discovery/Jamestown were so close to each other, making it difficult to create sensible school zones. My house has been zoned for Jamestown and then Discovery, even though the quickest walk for us is to Nottingham.

I’m pretty sure that will not be an effective strategy with the Board or the Arlington electorate in general—other than those already disposed towards ape. It’s likely to alienate more potential supporters.

APE likes to think they are the experts.

See? Nothing to see about closing Nottingham. Ad hominem fallacy is a typical debate technique. We see you.

No one cares too much about Nottingham closing because the plan makes sense. Many schools are desperately in need of renovations. It's for the greater good. What else is there to discuss?

So because you think closing Nottingham is for the “greater good” we shouldn’t have any discussion about the factors and reasoning that went into that decision?

You can have a discussion, but it won't be substantial because most people are OK with it. I think after 83 pages any possible points about it have been made.

Alright, well that’s not going to stop those of us with questions from asking them. Many people are willing to accept what APS says based on trust. Good for them. It’s not clear to me that APS has earned that trust and is putting what is best for kids and their families first. We all benefit when people are involved and asking questions.

Literally no one is stopping you from asking those questions. You may not get much (more) engagement though because most people are OK with it.

I mean the default position here is Nottingham parents should accept it for the greater good and move on.

We have a lot of questions and right now, nobody is answering them.

And the renewal of Duran's contract. That brought them out again.

As a lurker, never poster in both AEM and APE Facebook groups, the AEM regulars are a 1000x more crazy. I’ve been accused of “being APE” on here even though I have no affiliation. Not everyone who criticizes APS is APE. Frankly the folks who force APE into every thread on this forum seem the craziest.

I'm a never posted on AEM and have been called an AEM regular on here. Guess it goes both ways.

APE forced themselves on this issue.

You literally just said you are a member of the APE group but then you claim you have no affiliation. Ok.........

Wait, what? Nottingham itself was renovated by busing all the kids to another location in Rosslyn for a year???

We get it, the McCrazies are now the ones who hate this ape group. Now, back to the topic of Nottingham....

Aps is playing the long con….

They wanted to convert Nottingham to an option school seven years ago when they first started talking about “school moves”; that was squashed by the school board.

They made really irresponsible boundaries that left Nottingham largely empty when they opened cardinal.

They use the fact that the school “is empty” to justify turning it into swing space. In three years, I would bet money they propose moving campbell or mpsa there to create more seats in south Arlington. Ta da! Nottingham is an option school!
