You mean all of this preening was just fake theater for the cameras and social mediation?! No way!

Sooo...
Are you anti-McCarthy?

Bozos on all sides. It was obvious this was all fake. McCarthy is going to be speaker.

Imagine being so cynical about government that you can’t even understand that the republicans don’t gain anything from this.

“Please send money because the Republican Party is in such chaos that we can’t even elect a Speaker” is a terrible fundraising message and in no way intentional.

Some Republicans are fundraising on the backs of this, I believe.

FC members are doing it. 'I'm helping to drain the swamp by standing up to the establishment. Send $$$$'

Have to love half the republicans walking out while Gaetz was talking. Clearly there hasn't been a deal!

The Washington Post just announced that Rep. Ted Lieu (D) just voted for Hakeen Jeffries for Speaker. Are the Democrats voting? If so, why don't they just all vote for Jeffries for Speaker? They only need to get a few Rs on their side (which, I know, is pretty much an impossibility).

In a nutshell, no Democrat will vote for a Republican, and no Republican will vote for a Democrat.

No, this is not true. Democrats won't vote for an election saboteur nor someone who will not partner in good faith. If GOP put up one of the handful of non-election deniers a Speaker, Dem would consider it.

Don't try to both sides this. GOP dysfunction and everyone expects the Dems to clean up their sh!t. Just like maintenance had to clean up insurrectionists sh!t.

Like who? I'm struggling to think of any GOP rep who is not somewhere on the spectrum of crazy.

Fred Upton?

He's no longer in Congress. And he's not there because he was run out by the crazies. Why would we think the crazy people that ran him out would now vote for him?

Speaker doesn’t have to be a MoC, which is curious given they are second in the line of succession.

Very interesting. Your point?

NP. The point is that the line of succession was changed from Sec.of State, 2nd in line, to Speaker because it was thought that it should be someone who had been elected,by the people.

Next time maybe you should know what you're talking about before castigating someone else.

Google Presidential succession act of 1947.

Everyone knows the speaker doesn't need to be a representative. Upton could not get republican votes because he is considered to be a traitor by the party.

Are they capable of that?

They’ve shown for years that that’s all they know how to do. They can’t govern.
