Which facts do you have your kids memorize?
-I did states, continents and multiplication facts with my youngest. Looking for ideas from others as to what they think is relevant? |
| Memorization is not the same as education. They can google any of that. I would rather have them remember from working with the concepts and relationships of each topic as opposed to rote memorization. |
| OP, do multiplication and division facts!! |
The dumbing down of the populace curtesy of google. |
| Presidents. Countries and their capitals. Where all the US States are located (used a puzzle). All the verbs of being. All the conjunctions. |
|
Math facts and spelling
Memorizing states and capitals is rather pointless. Memorizing something *about* places is better. And their locations on a map. |
|
My name. My phone number.
My worst nightmare is them getting lost, found by police, and they say “what’s your mom’s name?” “Mommy” “What’s her number or your address?” “Home” Other than that, days of week and months of year. |
+1 This is the only one we really drill. |
Irony can be ironic. |

Certain states have formally brought back recitation so can look up Georgia, Arkansas dept of education as examples for what they have kids do at each grade level in ES (different poems/speeches at different ages, etc). Also lots of articles about benefit of recitation and how it maps the brains.

For recitation: Gettysburg address Preamble Constitution I have a Dream For skills standpoint, phonic/spelling rules or really go for it with Latin roots |

| Bible verses |
I didn’t know Michelle Duggar read DCUM! |
| Flags I think, some capitals. They are more into other countries than states. |
