Is the in pool and cogat scores mailed or emailed?

Anonymous
My older kids received a letter that they brought home in an envelope. This was many years ago before Covid.

Now I have a second grader. Parent referrals are due next week.

We went through this last year. In Pool notification was emailed. Cogat score comes in paper envelope. You should always parent referral anyway, provide more information in parent questionnaire, even if you don't have work samples.

Cogat score will be posted on sis

Do you get something if your kid is not in pool or only if they are?

The NNAT was posted on sis and I think something was mailed also.

Does each school do it differently?

Last year (2023) there was a nationwide cogat testing glitch at original oct. testing date. The cogat was postponed, and in some school the actual test date was not communicated until 1 day before, there was lot of drama. So last year the cogat score and in-pool notification came out the last day of Fall semester (12/15/23). AART told every family just submit family referral regardless your child is in-pool or not.

So last year wasn't a good indicator, and just sit tight.

This year’s parent referral is due 12/15 and winter break is a week later.

I have a current second grader. I am almost certain for my older child, we had winter break to create work samples. I remember getting his letter after we got back from vacation. I want to say it was in our mailbox. I have a memory of rushing to mailbox after our trip. I could be getting confused with AAP acceptance letter.

Last year's family referral was also due at 12/15, the same day as in-pool notification and cogat score came out. I would not wait until cogat score to prepare family referral. You should have spent Thanksgiving break preparing for it.

The AAP acceptance letter came out before/after spring break, maybe that was what you were remembering. At least last year it was sent out via email as well.

DP and no, I remember the same as PP. With my current 7th grader we had the CogAT scores before winter break but the parent referral wasn't due until a few days after winter break in early January. It had changed by the time it came time for my 5th grader and with my 3rd grader it was 12/15 and we spent Thanksgiving break on the packet.

Not sure if it changed for the current 5th grade cohort or the current 6th grade cohort. I'm guessing the pandemic and the move from a paper referral (that's right, it used to be something you printed and had to deliver to the school) had something to do with it.

Your school told you the dates? Our school said it would be in October and they would tell us the before the exact dates so that attendance and being well rested could be prioritized. No notification. We learned from our child on the last day of testing that it ended. He was sick and hardly sleeping the first two days. Not expecting a good score...

DP here. We were told mid October and they took it a week early. I know the teacher was going over some questions and test format immediately before the actual test. Parents were all surprised the test happened early.

I’m not sure what you think the notice would do for your child.

My oldest kid was sick as a dog and barely made it to school for his PSAT. It is what it is. He missed 2 days of school that week home sick.

God no, my school never told me. My kid told me the day before, when I told him he's supposed to go to dentist the next day. "But mommy, we are having a test tomorrow."

Immediately as in day of? At our school it was always same week, but not day of. We were given a window by our school, and then close to the date the actual date so kids didn't miss. But you knew because your kid came home talking about practicing test questions.
