The school telling you that the test is in October is telling you. I remember when my older kid was in second grade, I knew the test was coming up and I ordered a book. The book came and when I tried to look at the book with DS, he was familiar with it because he took the test at school a dew days prior. I didn’t realize the cogat was 3 days. I don’t know if it was always 3 days. My third and youngest child is in currently in second grade. We do get a Friday newsletter. I don’t always open them. I bet the dates would be on there. I remember one of the ones I opened back in September said they would be doing iready. They have a weekly schedule and what they are working on in each subject. |
No, immediately before. Like I posted, all parents were surprised the test was given a week early than we expected. I knew they were going over some questions. I don’t know if they spent 1 day or 3 days or 5 days preparing for the test. We all knew it was coming up and then they just took it. We didn’t get an exact date. |
My kid is on the spectrum, it would have 100% been better if morning of we could have told him that his routine was going to be different for an important test. Rather than it coming as a surprise.
I'm most annoyed that they said they would tell us closer to the days the exact days but then did not. If I didn't think an announcement was coming I could have given soft warnings on what he could expect. It's fine and will be what it will be. I just wish there were more consistency/transparency. |
This is FCPS. I believe that they really mean what they say when they try to get every school to do things the same way, but the system is too big and that's not actually happening. Buckle up because the inconsistencies and lack of transparency get worse as they get older. |
I’m sorry but your post is really ridiculous. Can you see what you wrote? You need to tell your kid in advance about soft warnings? What does your kid do when there is an assembly or a fire drill. I know our school had a band and or orchestra concert yesterday during school. Pretty sure the teacher would have told the class their test would be tomorrow. We get very little individual grade level info from the school. We actually get none. |
I wrote above that I bought a book and my kid had already taken the test. School and kid didn’t even tell us. We just knew it was coming and it was in October. |
PP, I am talking about 2023, when Cogat had a national testing glitch that cancelled Oct. testing date. The school said they'll let us know the new test date pending CogAT availability but they never told us. You don't think we look for all the possible communications? You DS probably was a few years older and your experience wasn't the same as 2023, which was an outlier. |
I think it is more the school. We were at a more laid back mixed SES area where people didn’t pay much attention to AAP. Now we live in McLean and everyone seems very focused on AAP. The AAP meeting at our school was packed. I have never seen so many parents attending any event at our school before. |
