President-elect Trump’s pick for “border czar,” Tom Homan, on Sunday threatened funding for states that refuse to cooperate in the federal government’s deportation plans.

Fox News’s Mark Levin, in an interview with Homan aired Sunday, said the border czar will have “a very, very powerful weapon that the Democrats, when they’re in power, use against Republican administrations, state and local, all the time: federal funding.”

“If you have a governor who says, ‘I’m not gonna cooperate. … I’m gonna block you,’ well, then, federal funds should be slashed to that state, and I mean hugely so, so the people of that state understand that the governor is the responsible party, that the mayor’s the responsible party,” Levin added.

Homan agreed with Levin, saying “that’s going to happen, I guarantee you,” adding that the president-elect “will do that.”

Homan said Sunday that Democrats needed to put aside their feelings about Trump and cooperate.

“I’ll say this: President Trump has made it clear, we’re going to prioritize public safety threats and national security threats right out of the gate [because] they pose the most danger to this country. What governor or mayor doesn’t want public safety threats and national security threats out of their neighborhoods, out of their communities?” Homan said Sunday.

“That’s their number one responsibility. So you can hate Trump all you want, but you gotta love your community more than you hate President Trump,” he added.

That’s what I can’t understand. Why don’t these governors want dangerous criminals out of their states/communities? It doesn’t make sense from a public safety standpoint at all.

Seems perfectly reasonable.

Do we think Homan knows which states have the highest reliance on federal dollars?

Such a petty, small person.

Because the governors live in the land of reality. They live in productive states that employe the very people that the morons want to deport. They rely on their labor and leverage that to keep costs low so that we can all support the red state welfare queens. Texas is already figuring out what this is going to do to their economy.

Man, I thought that 2024 Civil War movie was a little bit far-fetched, but it’s starting to seem more realistic as the days go by.

Well, it will be fun when they ask psycho Newsome for veggies and fruit because the tariff on Mexico produce will increase produce prices.

This will be actually popcorn worthy.

Then states like California won't have to worry if they lose those few federal dollars.

Chile can deliver produce. Bananas can come from Guatemala. Also, plant a garden. Might relax you

California probably doesn’t.

But Texas and Florida have almost equal numbers of illegal immigrants as California.

Will be interesting for sure.

Oh yeah, all the veggies and fruits will come from Chile. Bananas already come from Guatemala.

Already have a garden, buddy. And animals. We're self sufficient. Unlike you, I don't need a daddy to save me. But MAGA will find out the hard way.

None of Trump’s nominees understands how little authority a cabinet Secretary has. DHS funds are not his money. It’s all appropriated for specific purposes with specific formulas and rules for distribution and use.

Trump is going to ignore the laws and do what he wants, irrespective of anything the congress has or had passed.

Executive threatening to undermine Congress by redirecting funding away from where it is mandated by law? Denaturalize the traitor.

Sure we can all just eat only bananas for fruit.

Most of the fruit in this country comes from CA, by far.

1 CA: Share of U.S. total fruit & vegetable production: 68.94%
2 WA: Share of U.S. total fruit & vegetable production: 8.02%
3 FL: Share of U.S. total fruit & vegetable production: 6.52%

Who cares about fruit and vegetables from CA. MAGA don't even eat fruit and veggies. Could be why their people are so obese and unhealthy. Hope ACA and medicaid don't go away. There will be a lot more people dying in those red states.

I'm not going to get too concerned about this until the new administration is in place. Homan was chosen for his ability to act tough on TV. There is a theatrical element to all this that Trump requires. Remember that threatening and bullying was one of his tactics when he was a "businessman."

In practice, there are some safeguards in place that can prevent a president from withholding funds from a state to "punish" it.

1) Congress controls federal spending and 2)
withholding federal funds could violate the 10th amendment, which protects states' rights, and the Spending Clause, which requires federal funds to be used for the general welfare of states.
