| For those that turned down UMD in-state for VT, why did you choose VT? |
| It would be related to major, surely? |
| Years ago i did. Really liked the mountain setting and also felt a lot safer. Back then dorms were unlocked during the day at VT, whereas UMD dorm halls were always locked. Now they are both the same, but is still a lot safer. Major was engineering so they were basically equivalent for that. |
| VT is in a lovely mountain setting. |
| They are basically the same academically. Your student will have to decide which vibe they prefer. |
UMd is actually much higher ranked for some things. Computer science for example. |
My FCPS CS major didn't apply to VT. Attending UMD with a little merit. |
+1 VT has the better setting hands down. More spirit too. |
+2 |
| VT is not worth OOS tuition if MD is an option. |
Why not? |
| I wouldn’t pay OOS for either one if I had in state at either one. |
Because UMD > Vtech in every ranking, if that's important to you. But, if your kid wants a different setting, and you can afford it and don't care about rankings, then go for it. By the by, UMD beats Vtech in football pretty much every year. |

Is UMD football still poorly attended? At least VT fans care. |
