Hidden gem colleges in Colorado or Massachusetts or Washington?

Social sciences, collaborative (not cutthroat) culture, clubs or activities they don't have to write a 5-page application to compete for, not too remote from good-sized town or city. Great student but not top stats.

Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.
University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA
Seattle University in Seattle, WA
Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO

Except for Seattle U, these are slightly off the beaten track and could be considered targets/safeties if you are interested in the West.

+1 on University of Denver. Several of my family members have attended and loved it and have gone on to successful careers.

Whitman has a ton of resources but is overshadowed by similar west coast LACs like Oxy and Colorado

Another vote for Clark. My daughter’s friend plays soccer there and it seems like a great place.
