Infertility Support and Discussion
| I'm feeling a sense of hopelessness/desperation and would appreciate some good advice. My low libido is probably linked to personal issues (e.g., not the best body image), and need I say it's not had a positive impact on my marriage with DH. No children yet, though that is a goal and time is ticking (already in later 30s). I probably could benefit from speaking to a therapist, but I'm wondering if it's best to just rule out certain maybe obvious issues. My TSH level has tested fine, for example. I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a specific type of test/tests I should get done through an OB/GYN. If say it's a hormone imbalance that can be remedied, then maybe everything can change for the better and not take a very long time. Thanks in advance .... |
| ... For example, is it recommended that I go directly to an RE, and they can do the appropriate testing for me? Or, should I have an OB/GYN order certain tests for me? Please advise ... |
|
An RE won't help with libido issues. An OB/Gyn will, but you may have try a few to find one interested in working with you.
Low estrogen can be a cause - I'm not sure about low progesterone. |
| Thanks, so in that case, the testing would be via an OB/GYN. Are there any ideas for what tests might be required? It's been a struggle so far to find a good doctor, so if I'm at least more aware of what to ask for, I'm guessing that can only serve me well ... |
| I would give acupuncture a try. It's supposed to increase blood circulation to all your organs. You can bring a low libido issue to an acupuncturist. Also, a natural supplement called maca root increases libido in both men and women. It helped me. Good luck! |
| Thanks, PP, those are ideas I'd not have thought of ... May I know which brand of supplement you've used and found helpful? I'm unfamiliar with this option ... |
| ... I'm still interested, if people can say, about what type of hormone tests might be done via an OB/GYN. Thanks again (OP) |

Poster 15:54 here. I buy maca here: http://www.naturalfertilityshop.com/Fertility-Maca-Capsules-p/104721.htm
Give it a couple of weeks and I am sure you will see a difference. |
I am not sure whether anu hormone test results will be shed any light re: your low libido. The truth is not all of us are born with high libido. So don't feel bad. I would read a couple of articles re: "self-stimulation" methods ( :oops to increase your libido.

Sorry for spelling mistakes.

Thanks 15:54, I appreciate that info .... To be honest, I'm nervous about going on any type of such supplement, because thankfully I seem to have other things going well (e.g., I do get the changes in CM, do test positively on OPK). BUT, and importantly, my libido is almost not there. So, if I can't get in the mood and "nothing happens," those possible ovulation times are going to waste.
PP, thanks, too ... I have heard/read a bit about self-stimulation. I wish something could work easily on me, but maybe my trouble is somehow so ingrained. So, lots of work for me, and that's discouraging (but important to do ...) |

For me, it was very high sex-binding hormone globulin, low free testosterone, and I can't remember my estrogen number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_hormone-binding_globulin). You're probably not on hormonal birth control if you're posting in this forum, but that was a big part of what killed it for me.
I actually did an offlabel blend of estradiol and testosterone as a topical application (suggested by a doctor, done at a compound pharmacy) which may not be the best idea, but it did help me a LOT. Things have balanced out now, and my libido stayed up. Charting also helped me - I really found my libido increased with fertile times, and it was nice to take advantage of that, even when we weren't TTC. |
| any suggestions for poor male libido, besides viagra (no erectile dysfunction)? My DH has had a low libido since we married, prior to that he couldn't get enough of me, but something changed after marriage, physically he is able just would rather go to sleep. |
There was another thread a month or so ago where people swore by the Macca (or is it Maca) supplements. Many people said it helps with male libido, too. |
Hi PP, OP here ... Thanks for these various details ... You're right, I'm not on any birth control, so nothing is contributing that way. Since you mention specifics, was it your doctor (OB/GYN?) who had you get tested for those various levels? It's great that they were able to accommodate your needs specifically with that topical blend you mention, too. If I do have an appointment set up to address this concern, then having this background info will possibly help a lot, to know maybe I might ask for, etc ... |
