Dismantling of the Dept of ED and other plans

The state of public education in the US is already precarious and Trump’s plans for education are rather frightening. Patriotism education? Prayer in schools?
Is anyone else scared that things will go from bad to worse?

And you think things are going great now, where were behind almost every other first world nation in education? Getting rid of the useless Dept. of Education (which has only been around since 1980) would be worth a try.

And you think things are going great now, where were behind almost every other first world nation in education? Getting rid of the useless Dept. of Education (which has only been around since 1980) would be worth a try.

NP. Eliminating the Dept of Education will not LGBTQ+ kids disappear, nor make it legal to discriminate against them. Is that what you’re hoping for?

What I want to see disappear is kids being punished for using the wrong pronouns and for speaking up about biological males in girls’ spaces.

Are they saying not to? Stop grasping at straws. Parents don't want schools to be indoctrination camps for fringe ideas. If something that has "education" in its name hasn't been able to right the ship of failing schools, it serves no purpose. Arguing that the dept has no teeth only confirms it.

My concerns with schools include discipline issues, passing kids along, lower standards. Gender indoctrination? Do you guys get your news from Fox? We are in the DMV and my kids have not been indoctrinated.

Eliminating the cabinet department is unlikely to eliminate most of its activities. It is mostly shuffling the deck chairs.

DoEd functions could be merged back into Dept of HHS, to give one example.

2nd Example: DoJ enforced civil rights in education before DoEd was created - and that piece of DoEd likely would go back to DoJ if DoEd were disestablished.

That’s actually what project 2025 calls for — sending it back to DOJ.
