| Where are my DMV Desis at? I'm feeling so proud today, I took my twin daughter and son to the polls and have been sharing the stories of Kamala's childhood and her fabulous mom Shyamala! |
|
Desi girl checking in from CA! Grew up in the Bay area alongside Kamala and I, and my whole family, are pulling for her.
|
| You can’t wait until tonight. |
| Fellow Desi here - DH, Twins children, and I voted for Kamala early. So hopeful that she prevails! My stomach is in a knot though due to anxiety. |
| PP here - I recognize that she will also be the first woman president! What a combo - first black south asian woman president with a brain and heart! |
yes, inshallah! pakistani woman voting for harris and so excited for what she could accomplish. |
| She’s going to be our President. And I have things I don’t like but I am so relieved at the momentum and how things look! |
| I thought she was afro-American. |
| Black woman here and I'm surprised that there hasn't been more news coverage on what her presidential run means to South Asians as I've been curious. |
You seem smart.
|
She isn’t African-American/American Descendant of Slavery. |
Her father is from Jamaica and she is a descendant of Jamaican slaves... does it really matter? |
| She does not support Asian American concerns. She is African American first, white second when it comes to policy. The media doesn't even mention her as an Asian American or Asian-African-American except when convenient. Trump is one of the few people who has consistently called her Asian and that's pretty pathetic because he was denying she was black. |
She is consistently shouting out her incredible South Asian mother Shyamala, there's a post about Shyamala on Kamala's social media almost every few days. Kamala has also kept using her Indian (Sanskrit) name and not Americanized it (looking at you Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley). She has said her mother has been the single greatest influence on her life and she was her mother's caregiver until her dying day. Those of us in the Desi community can see the love and respect for her culture. She is proudly both Black and South Asian - a dynamite combo in my opinion! Chalo chalen, Kamala! Let's win this. |
yes Black girl magic meets Desi girl magic! I love her. |
