She is consistently shouting out her incredible South Asian mother Shyamala, there's a post about Shyamala on Kamala's social media almost every few days. Kamala has also kept using her Indian (Sanskrit) name and not Americanized it (looking at you Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley). She has said her mother has been the single greatest influence on her life and she was her mother's caregiver until her dying day. Those of us in the Desi community can see the love and respect for her culture.

She is proudly both Black and South Asian - a dynamite combo in my opinion!
