| Are grades final at this point? What we are seeing in parent view are final grades and shouldn’t really change at this point? Looks like our HS is still doing 50% for All Task grades which surprised me since I thought MCPS got rid of it |
| May not be final yet. Teachers can enter grades until the end of their duty day today. |
| My kids' teachers are doing a mix of 50% and 0% for missed or late work and similarly different rules on deadlines. I support being tougher on grading but I wish it was more universal. My ADHD/LD kid did not navigate this well from class to class. |
| My HS kid’s first quarter grades are locked out at this point, showing N/A for everything. |
Since first quarter just ended, what’s coming up is second quarter interims. You have to select first quarter grades from the drop down menu. Then you’ll see the grades. |
The inconsistencies in mcps are directly hindering for kids with adhd, etc. Each teacher has creativity to use canvas is whatever way they want. They implement different menus, put assignments and grades in different places or don't enter them at all. Grades are 0 or 50 or ???? While it's difficult for a neurotypical kid to figure this out it's almost aggressively mean to a student with adhd. I can't imagine a more anti-adhd system if they sat down with the intention of devising a system to screw over neurodiverse students. |
| MCPS should have the same rules for every school. The 50% rule should be applied consistently at every school. I don’t understand why central office is so wishy washy about some rules while others are set in stone |
It’s 50% if you turn something in. 0 if you don’t. |
Sorry to hear that. Even for a Neuro"typical" (whatever that is - what/who is actually "typical" or "normal"?) student, it can be much because of what you say about teacher's use of canvas. |
It's also 50% if you turn it in in its entirety and the teacher loses or misplaces it. |
They will never do that because it masks how bad the failures are. |
At the highschool where I teach, we are strongly encouraged to give 50% for assignments that were never turned in |
1000% this. MCPS wants to keep the 50% rule while pretending that the rule is gone |
Is that universal policy now? My kid’s teacher told him two weeks ago it was too late to get credit but 50% for turning in would have made a huge difference. |
No, it depends on the teacher. Some honor that, some just give a zero. |
