Is it just me, or are the blue/red electoral maps with the count to 270 electoral votes almost nonexistent in the past month or so?
In past years, John King at CNN and others were constantly in front of the map changing states and trying to predict how the map would end up on election night. It was literally daily. I have tried to find recent ones on YouTube and can’t find anything from CNN in the past two months. Very strange. Seems to me Trump has a much clearer path to 270, and perhaps CNN doesn’t want to highlight that? Where’s John King and the Magic Wall??!! |
| Good point. Anyone personing the political desks at the major news outlets mapping it up lately? |
All I could find was a few amateur ones on local news stations. CNN and John King were at the map two months ago, but nothing recent. Not that I could find anyway. |
| There’s nothing to report. Polls have this thing tied. |
| You can play it yourself using 270towin |
Maybe, but that has never stopped them in past years. And when you do the map yourself based on polling data, it becomes very clear that Trump has the much easier path to 270 (assuming polls are correct that he will likely get GA, NC, AZ, and NV). Then he only needs to pick up ONE of MI, WI, or PA. Also remember how in past years it was all about Florida and Ohio. Those are in the bag for Trump this year and they aren’t even campaigning there. I don’t think CNN wants to show that reality, which isn’t pretty for Kamala. |
This. You can find the maps online easily (538, Washington Post, etc.). But since the polls are tied in all the swing states there's no action there. At this point all you need to know is that Harris needs PA-WI-MI to win, and that PA in particular is the lynch pin. There are some other scenarios where Harris could win but they don't really make sense (extremely unlikely she wins AZ or GA if she lost one of the northern states). Everything beyond that is just gravy. If Harris wins those three she might also carry NV-NC-GA which would give her a huge majority. On the other hand if Trump wins PA then it's also likely he'd win either WI or MI and very likely he'd carry at least GA-NC-AZ, giving him a huge majority. But there's no point in speculating about either of those scenarios until we know who won PA which we can't know until after the election. |
Exactly my point. Kamala’s path to 270 is much tighter than Trump’s (she had to get ALL 3 of MI, WI, and PA, whole Trump only needs ONE, and has Florida and Ohio in the bag, which decided contests in past years). I don’t think they want to highlight that. And I don’t buy that it’s just because the race is close — past races have been exceptionally close (2000 and 2020 for example) and they were constantly showing the map. The true map will be very depressing to Kamala’s supporters on Tuesday when they finally show the returns come in. |
Another way to think about this is that Harris only has to win three states of the 7 battlegrounds whereas Trump has to win 5. And the reason Harris only has to win 3 is that the states where she is strongest are more populous and thus have more electoral votes. But really neither of them has the "easier path." Basically whoever wins PA wins the election. Much like in previous years when it all came down to Florida. And the reality is that while FL and OH have swung to the right, Virginia and Colorado have swung to the left. So there's been no rightward shift in the US. It's just that people keep moving around and attitudes are shifting a bit. |
If you’re so convinced Trump’s winning then why do you need this wall? |
I like to see the game theory of it all, no matter the election or who’s winning. |
Based on current polls, it seems very clear Trump will take GA, NC, AZ, and NV. That picture has emerged quite clearly in the two months since CNN apparently stopped using the wall and electoral predictions. That means there are really only three states in play (PA, WI, and MI), and of those, Kamala needs all three to win and Trump only needs one. Instead of the endless panels on CNN with their partisan politics, I would prefer to see objective John King and his Wall. But it seems CNN has told him to stand down. |
