I heard some folks at the grocery store saying they had voted and written in people like 'Prince Harry' and 'Butt Head'. Someone else chimed in and said they did not like the options so wrote in 'Rather vote for my a$$'.
Is this illegal or just foolish? |
| It's political speech. You can't make that "illegal." |
good to know!! |
Are you seriously this stupid? You can write in any name you want FFS |
|
My mom used to write in "my mother-in-law, (name redacted)" whenever she didn't like her choices.
If you're going to throw your vote away, might as well add flair. |
Are you serious? You’re an immigrant from a fascist country aren’t you? |
I wrote in Liz Cheney/Adam Kinzinger. Not illegal. Foolish? So are the other choices. |
| It’s wasting a vote but perfectly legal. |
| People have been voting for Mickey Mouse for generations. |
| Of course it’s not illegal. Ringo Starr got like a million votes in the 1960s. |
| People who do this are so clever and witty. You may not like your choices but 1 of 2 people are going to run this country and getting to participate in selecting one of them is a whole lot better than the alternative. Hundreds of years of human struggle is being disrespected when you do this - but, it is your right. You should avoid admitting it though because most people will think you’re childish and dumb. |
Lots of us don’t advertise who we vote for. I know it’s shocking for the DCUM crowd but who I vote for is no one’s business. |
| We write in our dog. He’s gonna win one of these days. |
+1 When Hogan wrote in Reagan last presedential election, I lost all respect for him. |
| Election worker here. It's not illegal, but also it would be impossible to enforce. Ballots are secret and not linked to your name, so they wouldn't know who to go after if it were illegal. |
